Night training...; Any miracle advice?!

DS1 is 3 and 5 months. He's been trained during the day since he was a bit older than 2 1/2 and we haven't had any problems except for the occasional accident.
The next step was to get him to poop in the toilet first thing in the morning - for some reason he goes right when he wakes up, and he managed to switch from the diaper to the toilet.

Sooooo what's left is night time (and nap time) peeing. He doesn't pee that much, so I get the cheapest diapers and they do the job. He throws his diaper in the garbage when he wakes up. I am also aware that age-wise it's far from being considered a problem yet, and the previous steps he took when HE was ready for it, not me...
But still, any advice?! Anything we can do to help him in the right direction?

(lately he started telling us in the evening that "tonight I won't make pipi in my diaper", but nothing has changed yet)

We're working on the same with my dd.
She can make it through a nap dry. And does pretty well most nights.

We make sure that she doesn't have any drinks from an hour before bedtime and on. And we "force" her to use the potty right before bed.

I know some parents who at 10 or 11pm, before they go to sleep, will take their toddler to the bathroom. I haven't done that yet, because i know how upset dd gets when she's woken :(

Get some rubber sheets to put between the mattress and bed sheets and don't send him to bed in a diaper?

DS doesn't always make it dry through naps, he did for a while but then when it got warm it didn't work anymore...

I doubt I'd manage to wake him up to take him to the toilet... and I think he pees mostly in the 2nd part of the night, when I'm sleeping! (once I forgot his diaper and went at midnight to put it on, and he was still dry, but not in the morning).

Kmelion, the thing is on the few times we forgot his diaper, he didn't wake up from being wet! I just ended up having extra laundry. But maybe I should try again now that some time has passed... and when it's warmer bedsheets dry faster ;)

No.. Hallie isn't night trained either. But if it makes you feel any better her dr. said not to worry until 6 or 7 years old..

My ds will be 4 in July. He was day-trained by 3 and a number of months ago was nap-trained - as long as he goes to the bathroom right before. Nights, I am not pushing at this point. Right now, it's not so worth the stress.

We had to do it in one shot for a specific reason. I took away diapers from Zu to day train. So what did he do? He held it in and when he knew he had to go soon he told me, "mommy, its nap time now (or sub in bedtime)." He would pish away and half an hour later tell me he was all done. I took them away completely and within 24 hours he was day trained with very few accidents since than and none since pesach time. Night time it took I think 3 nights. Yes, we woke him up to train him to wake up on his own. Now he has no issues. Tev is still in the crib part time so until I get him out and sleeping like a mentch in a big bed I am not bothering though Zu has other plans for him!

what if you put on underwear and then the diaper at night? That way, he may feel the wetness before it gets to the point of filling the diaper...or...maybe he'll sleep through it? At that age, they are pretty deep sleepers. And, another trick I used was when ds woke up with a wet bed (after taking his pullup off at night) and I was too tired to change the sheets at night, I put on double sheets. That way - I pulled off the top layer that was wet and he had the dry one underneath and I went back to sleep. I hate making a bed at night.

I tried the two sheets strategy with Hallie but that didn't work She pished so badly that it went through both (and now I had nothing to put on the bed) and a TOWEL!

Exactly my thoughts. You'd need about 10 layers and the bottom one might stay dry. Or else use a waterproof layer between.

sheet, underpad, sheet, underpad would probably work well.

We used to wake ds up but he fought us every time & begged me to go to sleep w/out a diaper. I told him we won't put it on after he wakes up dry. His night diapers used to overspill.
One night I FORGOT to change him & he woke up dry.

and that was that.

On the other hand, dd, who is a VERY tight sleeper had occasional accidents for a long time - may be untill age 5. She just didn't wake up.
