There is only one advice that miraculously always works: Know that every kid is different.

I would try to pinpoint when he normally goes at night. If he went before bed and is wet by 10 or so he prob is not ready anyway. If he goes at 2-4 AM you have to decide if you are up to getting up around 12-1. If, as most of mine, they wet at around 6 when they are supposed to get up at 6:30-7 anyway, I just started going in 5:30-6 to take them. If they wanted to go back to bed for another half hour ok and if not ok, too.

Dry diapers meant your choice of breakfast, even pancakes. They are a royal patchke but always appreciated.

Zun it sounds like your son was ready but decided he didn't want to due to being lazy. Holding in is a sure sign of being ready. My son would hold in his wee all day. I would send him to nursery in pants, he would come home dry and then in the car would wee, which would annoy the heck out of me because i would have to clean his car seat and change him, plus i wasn;t happy with him holding it in 5 hours a day.
So i think that is why when it came to night training he was very quick.
I think each child is different and they train at their own pace. I would not worry at the age of 3 at all.

Adin won't hold it in - he pees at gan, no problem!
So I guess I'll just have to wait, as long as he throws his diaper away on his own it's not even too much of a hassle...

Update -
This week Adin has asked a few times to sleep without his diaper. "oh, but I dno't want to always sleep with a diaper!"
SO first I told him that I need to get a special bed sheet to protect his mattress (the kind with terry cloth on one side and plastic on the other). Then I waited for him to ask again... And last night he did. I had no excuse anymore (it's even warm enough for the bedsheets to try fast if I end up having to launder them).
He went to bed around 7PM. I've already noticed he's never wet before midnight, but we went to sleep early so at 10:30PM dh took him to the bathroom - he barely woke up and claimed he ahd nothing to make there!
Next thing I know, it's 6AM and someone turns on the light in the bathroom. He went for a poop and called dh to wipe him... and he was dry!!! :banana :banana :banana

Now I know it's only the first time, but yay! I feel he's interested and it's a great start!

Hmmm... 4 days later...The first 2 nights were a dream! He even slept at my parents and didn't pee! And the next 2 days were pished...
The first accident was around 6AM, so we thought we just have to wake him early (dh's up anyway), but we didn't get a chance: when dh came back from nightshift at around midnight he was wet.
So today we're on brake - the special bedsheet had to be washed and I have to catch up with pished laundry...

Never mind! We'll keep trying.

Hallie asked for no pull ups this weekend too. Friday night she went down at 7 and we woke her at 11, and when she woke at 7:30 she was a tiny bit damp. The sheets weren't even wet.
Sat. night we forgot to wake her (our bad!) and she woke up very wet. I told her that during the week she needs to be in pull ups because we don't have time in the morning for a bath and all that extra laundry. She was so upset! We just have to remember to take her before we go to bed.

Natanel has been pretty good at night the last couple of months, We take him to the toilet at around 10.30 when we got to bed and he is usually dry when he wakes up if we do that.
However he has a horrid cold right now and went to sleep at 7 last night and we decided not to wake him as the last few nights he had been dry in the morning even though he hadn't done a wee at 10.30.
Well - he was WOKEN up at 9.30 and - surprise - he was wet. Oh well!
