Adin, now 3 1/2, used to eat everything and anything :yum I have a feeling what we are going through now is just a phase, but it's still annoying... I feel most of his diet is pasta, cheerios/cornflakes, hotdogs, flavored yogurts. I give him a sandwich and fruit/vegetable for gan and he usually eats them (I assume so since they don't come back) but when he's home, he's in a constan battle to get dessert without having to eat real food. He already knows when not to expect anything! I found he will eat corn happily, and sometimes really surprises me by having lentils, but most of the time all he wants is plain pasta (not even sauce on it OR ketchup!) Any idea how long his is going to last?!javascript:emoticon(':ouch') |

I was thePosted Image to my kids. Dessert was a Shabbos concept. If you don't want real food then come back for the next meal, it may be more appealing. OTOH, I did try to make the standard kid friendly stuff. I also refuse to serve more than one mainly starch meal a day. |

we also only have dessert shabbos and honestly not every shabbos. I use blueberries and strawberries as bait to get them to eat. Pineapple is also big. |

mmmm....blueberries and strawberries!! Ds loves those now that I can wash all the buggies off of them! I cut up lots of fruits and veggies for him as a snack and make veggie dips. Sometimes, I will give him a banana and let him dunk it in yogurt and then decorate it with sprinkles. My dh is a big sweet/dessert eater and I don't want ds copying that, so to keep him out of desserts - I just add some coloured sprinkles to certain foods (like yogurt or some fruit) and that gives a little bit of fun to the food. Enough fun to get him into eating it :) |

I also am pretty strict when it comes to desserts - and we also usually only have on Shabbat - and that is if we have guests as DH hasn't got a sweet tooth. If DS doesn't eat main course - he gets no dessert and that does the trick! Problem is on Shabbat he often goes to shul and has a fair amount to eat at the kiddush - but again, that is a Shabbat treat. I think this phase can last a while... |

weekday dessert is usually a yogurt, pineapple or if he was really good and I'm in a good mood, an icicle (the small once 'pop-ice"). Cake etc we have only for shabbat. I cook one thing, and if he doesn't want it then it's too bad (something I know he's already eaten in the past!)... if he's really hungry he'll usually come back later. I am also willing to trade whatever food I made for a slice of bread with humus/cheese. Once I went strictly by the rules and he went to bed without eating... I felt bad but I figured that if he had been really hungry, he would have eaten... His Dad has a very sweet tooth, so that's only making things harder! thanks for the advice... I'll try to keep up the good work with his younger brother: he things cucumber and cherry tomatoes are a must! |

Shabbos treat. If he wants ice lollies or anything else sweet he has to eat something first. His fave food is pasta, but i refuse to make him pasta everyday and he has to eat it with something else and that something else isn't pitta or chips. He is so fussy, but i decided not to get annoyed about it a while back. |

Akvir, sounds just like us... there's definitely no dessert if he hasn't eaten anything else. I also try not to get annoyed so as not to turn the food into a power struggle, but sometimes when i hear him say pasta I promise I could just blow a fuse! thanks for letting me know I'm not alone! |
