buy the undershirt tzitzit. I find my boys like them much better, because they do not slip and slide all over the place. As for the kippah. Be Cool. Don't force it. We had a rule, it has to be on for eating. If it was off when he wasn't eating, he got a where's your kippah? If he said he didn't want it, we let it be. Slowly but surely it was on more and morew often, until The point where I don't need to ask anymore.

If he is in gan/cheder it will straighten itself out by the herd mentality.

The books on upsherenish have sections where the 3 yr old is SO proud that he has tzitzit and kippa like Abba and big brothers.

he will be going to pre-school next year

In terms of a book on upsherins, wouldn't help...he got his 1st haircut at 16 months. Although if its the one I am thinking about, I know the illustrator

We actually had the issue that DS was not clean till he was a bit older than three, so we didn't let him wear tzitzit till then.
We said when he is clean, he can wear tzitzit like a big boy...and that helped.
He is getting better with his kippah but it has taken time. We do aim fro him to have it on at meals but don't push it otherwise. Hopefully when he starts preschool nursery in Sept he will get even better...

Well we couldnt find a book yesterday.
Got hima big buchari (sp?) kippah so hopefully, since it doesnt need clips, he will be better about keeping it on. That, and we let him pick it out.
Got 2 pr. regular tzitzit since they were the cheapest (DH only has an under the table job right now, so money is very tight) Already have 2 given as gifts, but they are a bit small for him.

We made a big deal about wearing a yarmulka and tzitzis, so they were excited to put them on. They wanted to be a "big boy". :)

As others have said, the tshirt tzitzit are worth it, there is a place in BP on 13th ave around 40th (Rosenberg??) that sells them for $5. The ones I buy here have snaps on the sides and cost around $10.

As for a kippah, DS wore a baseball cap from the time he was around 2.5 until he was over 4 and in regular school (only because they didn't allow caps). He only wore the kippah for shabbos. Even now (he is 7) on days where he doesn't have school he often wears a cap and he also wears it to camp. I like it because it offers some sun protection in the process.
