My 5-year-old ds had a class visit from a policeman. He came home all excited that he learned about when they use pepper spray, when the policeman uses it, what happens, etc. I dunno about you but when I was young, the policeman who came told us to look both ways when we cross the street and not to talk to strangers. boy have times changed!

Oh yes they have indeed. In fact, my 5 year old had a two different policemen visit her class this year. The first was an in depth lecture on the dangers of dogs. They taught the children strategies in case they were ever to come into contact with a stray dog. The second was a (very good in my opinion) basic "watch out for strangers" type of visit in which children were taught never to go with anybody, always ask a parent before you accept anything from a stranger...etc...

Of course, my daughter is the one at the recent Rodeo Parade who went up to an officer afterwards and said: "I really like your gun"

lol

That is so funny because I get selective replay for events from my dd and then as time goes on the rest gets filled in.

They had an awesome end of the year field trip today: http://www.safariwest.com/

We're talking zebras, giraffes, amazing wildlife, and an incredible journey. She gets home and I ask her how it went?

"Oh, it was fun Mom...except I didn't eat my apple because I think I have a loose tooth." And we haven't discussed the rest of the trip since! I'm sure I will hear more about it tomorrow ;)

I was listening to some of Hallie's friends talk about how policemen are BAD bc they give tickets. Kind of disturbing. But my friends dh is a cop and let me tell you, I don't like what I hear from her. He's allowed to drink and drive. THey once had a party and someone left a gun in the bathroom. (I was at that party) and a kid saw it and told an adult about it.
I think the cops need a cleaner image. I like the ones that are working in my house. Guys who moonlight as contractors!

ds came home and told us that they did talk about bike safety and road safety - but he was amazed at the fact that policemen can carry guns and guns are 'goyish' so I think he missed the whole part on the safety as the fact that the 'bad people ride in the back of the car that has more than two seats' seemed more important to him!!
