Last year - ds went to preschool at a more Yiddishe type school and with his name ending in a 'ah' he changed it to a 'i' at that school. So - off I went yesterday to get him iron-on stickers for towels, etc. for camp today. I am dressing him and he says, "Hey - this spells, "_ _ _ i"!! My name is "_ _ _ ah". So - since they are all ironed on and I sent in the application with his name the other way - what am I to do?? I can not believe a 4.5 year old can be so rigid in his thinking! They will just have to figure out that he goes by either name. I still call him the name ending in the i! |

my son, used to get very upset when anyone said his name with a ashkenazi accent. He would only respond to the sefardic pronunciation. I just spoke to the counselors and asked them to please use the pronunciation he prefers. once I told them why he was bothered they were very helpful. |

Wow.. those little munchkins are really being rigid! I think it's cute that they identify with their name being said a certain way. My dd answers to her name in any of ~5 different ways. I hope she doesn't develop a complex! |

My older son has a few names and started putting one of his other names on his school papers this year. I asked him the reason. He said, "I was in the mood and I like this name." Everyone still calls him the same and he's fine with that. Btw, for name tags, I use our last name instead of both names. Because then the tags are good for all the kids and you don't have to go searching for each kid's tags. |

I should have just used the initial - dh and ds have the same first (and ds has a double name and sometimes he goes by it - other times - not!!) |

DD came home once and said that I did not know how to say our last name. My ex had a name that could be pronounced several ways and the letters were often switched as well. The gannet said our name wrong but the gannet speaks Torah mi Sinai so she said I do not know how to say our name. I had to tell the gannenet to correct it for her. |

I have a daughter who has gone through several different versions of her name. I go along with it as much as I can. Lately she told me she wants to go back to version 1. We'll see if I can remember. For name tags I have our last name and phone number on the tag. |

or - just add '123' after the name...like, "Klein123" (if you don't want to advertise your phone number) |

But having the phone number on the tag is the whole point - so ppl who find it can return it to you. One day I get a call "I have Chaim's baseball glove". He had dropped in out of the car a few miles away - I never would have known where it was and only his name would not have done any good - we did not know the ppl that found it, but since the phone number was on it, they returned it. |

You're not advertising your number because who sees it? The camp people or someone who finds something you lost. Even though our name isn't that common, there were a few in ds's camp. Our phone number was how his counselor knew which were his clothes. And unless your number is unlisted, anyone can find it in the phone book. ;) :) |
