grey is ok, black I wouldn't do.  Enjoy talking to them.  My girls have a hunter green skirt - it is really ugly.

lol. My oldest dd is going to have that school's plaid next year. The hunter green shirts I could do without. The navy or white are okay though.

I don't understand why they gave that age in the school such an odd color combination. Hunter green and black? Yech. At least the black with the stripey or blue oxford is nicer.

I don't know either. I gave away all my small skirts and shirts, but if you want a jumper I have one that can be yours if you want it.

My rant is the fact that the boys uniform doesn't match and when worn looks like some scruff has thought up the outfit.
<snip>
It is really annoying me because i hate clothes that clash...and the boy's uniform just looks messed up.

Ok. The uniform is grotesque. But, do yourself and the kid a favor. Eitehr just buy the uniform and don't go on about it, or find another school. (Complaining to the school out of the kids' earshot is fine, though.)

For one thing, you don't want your son to develop an attitude about the school rules, or rules in general.

Perhaps you won't think the second point is very important, but I also think that it will help with the idea that clothes are not all that important, as long as they are neat and clean and consonant with Halacha and Tznius. Not that I think that this is the reason the school chose that uniform, but you might as well get the benefit.

The boys uniform here is really nice. Blue or tan pants with light blue or white (or yellow?) polo shirts.

And I don't get EC's light blue shirt with a plaid skirt with navy, black, red, green and white! When I went we were allowed to wear any solid shirt with a collar from the above colours.

Here, the girls' schools all have uniforms but the boys' ones don't.

we had grey and navy stitch down pleated, but before that, we had these really ugly ones with a yolk and three buttons on it!

EWWW!! I had totally forgotten about those! Glad we didn't have to wear them too long. B)

I still can't get used to the shirts that they're allowed to wear tucked-out. I feel like handing out a k'nas!

how much was a knas by you? here it was $5 for untucked shirts, sweaters not part of the uniform (and this lady would chase you down the hall and take away your sweater til the end of the day), unlocked lockers, and being caught eating lunch out of the gross lunchroom.

My guess is that that scheme was thought up by parents or someone who had a hangup about their uniform being too drab. The uniform dd had in HS was not bad - off white shirt and navy skirt, no pleats B"H - but the girls hated it by heredity. I Tzfat they had this purple color that kids liked but not parents and any black skirt they wanted, even long. Like even the best dorm food, there is a strong social pressure to kvetch about the uniform.

BTW, what is wrong with black pants? They match everything.

I agree. Gray sounds nice. My daughter also has a hunter green skirt. I actually like it. It's way better than the gray woolen pleated skirt I had to wear.

gray skirt? when was this?

Do you remember when the HS uniform was the same as the elementary? ugh.

Nope. When I was in HS there was no uniform.
