I apologize for using the anonymous feature but I am worried that others may know which school I am referring to and I don't want to gossip. My 5 year old daughter cut her face in school after falling in class. Her teacher sent her with another student to the office. The secretary gave her a bandage and sent her to wash her face and put it on. It was a pretty deep cut and she had blood on her shirt. This is what upset me. She is only 5! Shouldn't someone be there to help with that? I am not expecting the teacher to leave the class. Of course that it is her first priority but the secretary or someone in the office should have been there to help or am I expecting too much? I spoke with the teacher who was worried I was blaming her which I wasn't and she said she will pass the info along. Should I take it one step further and speak to the principal? |

a child cuts her face and gets all bloody, and all they do is send her to the office?!?! why didn't they call you, if its deep, she might have needed stiches. Also she should not be left to sit in a bloody shirt all day... Also, why doesn't a class of 5 year olds have an assistant? My son has 3 morahs in the classroom, my 6 year old has 2 morahs. And they also have assistants with the rebbe at recess and lunch. |

I would definitely speak to the principal. A 5 year old is supposed to take care of a cut alone?! Even if she knows how to put on a bandaid properly, she might need some comfort? Doesn't he school have a nurse? |

I've had 2 kinds of situations. One, where ds#2 cut the inside of his upper lip. They called us from school and we took him straight to the doctor. The doctor didn't stitch it b/c it was in a very difficult area, but it was a bad cut. Even though the school called me (which I'm happy about), they didn't deal with the reason it happened. Another time, he came home with a nice size scratch on his face. I got no notice from the school or the teacher. Ds#2 informed me that his Rebbi wiped up the blood. I would definitely speak to the school. |

I think I made it sound like more blood than it was. Her shirt wasn't drenched. It had some small blood stains. Going the office was not the issue as the class is across the hall from the office it was the issue of the secretary or other office staff not doing more. I will take it to the principal. thank you everyone. |

I would talk to the principal, too. And I donīt think it matters whether there was a little blood on the shirt or a lot--blood is blood. It had to be a significant cut to wind up with it on your childīs shirt. I just donīt think that a 5 year-old should be expected to correctly apply a band-aid. And letīs face it, every kids needs a little TLC after a cut. |

A five year old needs some loving after a cut like that. Dismissing her so easily was definitely not cool. |

i agree that it wasnt handled well. at a minimum an adult should have helped clean it- to make sure how bad it was and to help make sure there is no infection by cleaning it. they should also have made sure to call you- you have a right to know immediatly |

This situation was definitely mishandled. I think you should talk to the principal. try to be nonconfrontational, but the secretary did NOT handle the situation properly. |

I don't think you're overreacting. You're being a concerned mommy. This situation could've been handled better. |

dito i'm a little torn as to whether they needed to call you. if i would have gotten a call for that it would've made me worry when really there was no reason to. but maybe send a note home or something. |
