I cleaned up my boy's room very well...

Apparently some of my 5 y.o.'s prize possessions (like sea shells, some pennies, a broken container...) got relocated and it is the end of the world.... :hide

i feel so badly throwing their stuff out- i only save a few at a time. it is overwhelming the amount of projects that i have saved already- boxes full and my oldest is only 5. should i let her decide what to keep from last year and the year before?

I heard a good way to handle this is to have a certain size of a box that you allow them to keep "their" projects in. This can be an under the bed tupperware flat box or cardboard..etc...whatever fits. Then when it gets full, they go through it and decide what they can live with and what they are willing to throw away (then YOU secretly go through that afterwards and decide what to store throughout the years and give to them when they G-d willing move out someday!) Everything else does yes, get tossed. You can also scan in pictures and save on a dvd before getting rid of the actual picture itself.

Realeez, I SO hear ya on this one! My daughter is the queen of "random little items that mean the entire world to her." What may look like a broken piece of a toy to me is actually the highly guarded secret treasures of the Queen and that crumpled piece of paper was probably the secret map to find said treasure...

My Rachmiel is really neat because that's his nature and he is smart enough not to want me in his stuff (last time I found tobacco for nargila and I don't e v e n want to say what came home from the special ed yeshiva my nephew was at). The other 2 make a real mess if he's not here. If they want it they can have it if it is something allowed in the house. If he works hard to clean and they mess it I clean.

Each person has a thing for his stuff. If it isn't where you want it/left it you have to look there first. If you still don't find it ask me nicely, or else. Of course, mine are older than 5.

I put all the throw aways in a box and ds comes home and goes through it and we then discuss what is important and what I can throw away. I then tell him if he wants something to stay out of the trash then something else has to go to make the room. We have zero storage space and we are so not neat freaks around here.
