I am encountering some dental problems and it is hard to get ds to brush!! Currently, he is using Orajel toothpaste (but it doesn't have flouride). I heard that flouride spots the teeth when used at a young age. But - this stuff is like nothing. It doesn't take away bad-breath or anything - let alone stop cavities. What do people do at this point? I am terrified of getting big dental bills  |

Once they are around 4 and can be taught to spit, you can use toothpaste with fluoride. |

We bought Listerine CoolBlue. It colors the teeth and they have to brush the color off. Ds#2 thought it was cool. :) |

We use that too. They make water with flouride that you can use to supplement sometimes. My dr. recommended it. But the cool blue thing is really neat! |

There is a kosher brand that I buy the kids, they like it a lot! Its called orbital, and they have two kiddie flavors strawberry (which IMVHO is gross, but the kids seem to like it!) And something that tastes almost exactly like the kids sparkle colgate, The kids like that too! |

the only time I've used the kosher toothpaste is at Pesach, otherwise I never look for it or even different brands. I will see if they have it here. I bet that mouthwash would be good for dh - he doesn't brush well either. Although, he has a tendency to swallow the mouthwash . I want my whole family to be doing this: ( :brushteeth |

An anticavity flouride mouthwash is best. ACT make it, and the crest has an alcohol free mouthwash. |

Kids will eat it if you don't teach them carefully. I also used orbitol when my kids are little. The ped can give you flouride as well. Our water isn't flouridated because we share with our neighbors down the hill. I was given drops for my babies. |

Does it matter if kids eat it? I try to teach my son to spit, but he is barely spitting anything, don't most kids eat it and learn as they grwo up to spit? |

The idea is not to eat it. They have to learn that sometime. Esp if there is no affort made to have adult toothpaste with a hechsher. I also use orbitol adult and rinse. |
