For those in climates where playing outside or going for a walk isn't feasible for most of this winter, how do you keep your kids moving? I find by now we are going stir crazy, the kids don't eat or sleep as well as in the summer, and i wish I could think of good at-home activities that don't cost much that get them moving. Today, they rediscovered the honey bee hopper that had been packed away but that only lasts so long... Boy do I miss those nice enough to play outside or go for walk days!

Open gym at the community centre. Every morning they put out all kinds of toys (slides, ride-ons, balls, hockey sticks etc) and have a 2 hour free play period. It is good for crawlers right up to 5 year olds. It costs a few bucks, it is a great service.

Yes Marmyduke, when it's raining here that is what we do. We head over to "kindergym" and they run around nuts for a good two hours. I'm so thankful that it's spring here now and totally warm and sunny for us because good heavens it's VERY difficult for them (and me) when we can't go outside.

Here's some other stuff we do:

"picnics" are cool. Arrange a blanket in the living room, get out the tea set and have a tea party or picnic etc...

"forts" are also fun. Set up chairs and spread a sheet over it (tip from me, do NOT let them drag out every single blanket on their bed to make the dang fort or clean up takes forever.)

"camping" set up a tent in the living room, have a scavenger hunt around the house and let them eat a camping type of food (i.e. turkey dogs on a bun...although with pesach being so close you probably wouldn't want them to eat this anywhere but in your kitchen!)

"lost puppy" o.k. yes it's just hide and seek but for some reaason my kids think it's way more fun if they get to be dogs. One of them is a lost puppy and wanders around the house until he or she finds a good spot to hide. The other one wanders around looking for the lost puppy until found. Switch roles. Game begins again.

"olympics" we take the crib mattress, put it on the floor and then hop, flip, jump, and do tricks onto, above, around, and over it.

"freeze!" the kids jump around and go goofy while I have the music on, I randomly pause it and they have to freeze (there are other variations to this game that I'm sure you've seen but my three year old is happy with simply freezing and trying not to giggle so much that he falls over :D )
