OK, I'm hosting my first real Passover sedar (well, second, really, but I didn't have to cook for the first one, long story) Mom will make gefile fish egg soup matzah kugel I'm hoping MIL will bring matzah ball soup and brisket. This will really be a "leftovers" party. My aunt will bring ???? I need to know what else I'll need. ALSO, does anyone have a recipe for a vegetable kugel? thanks!!!!! |

You will need the items for the Seder plate: Z'roah/shank bone, egg, Moror/bitter herbs and lettuce, potato or onion, charoses/nuts, pears, apple and wine mixture. Wine and/or grape juice for the 4 cups and matzah (obviously ;)). And the meal. You can make the traditional 3 course meal or whatever your family prefers. Congrats and kudos for making the seder! ETA: Do you need onion soup mix? |

Oh yeah, the sedar plate stuff is all covered. I will make extra charoses, bc everyone loves that. I might also make matzah meal rolls, just bc they are fun. (if not for the sedar, than just for the rest of the week) You remembered the mix! You rock! Actually, my MIL has some and I won't be using it in any recipe. Since she's making the meal and bringing stuff... I don't think I will. But thanks anyway. |

My matzah rolls are the best! I can give you my recipe if you want. They always turn out great and I eat way too much of them. |

The truth is that while most people plan an elaborate dinner, who wants to eat after consuming so much matzah and wine? Plus, the seder will be starting after 10 pm this year... Good luck with your seder! I can only dream of hosting my own. As my ILs put it, we won't we needing to make pesach for many, many, many, more years. Gee, thanks! LOL I guess it's not that bad going to my parents and ILs every year, but one year I'll use my charms to convince them to come to our place. I want to be a "balabusta"! :D |

I'm totally doing the balabusta thing. I've gotten good over the years. Our sedar won't quite be starting as late as 10pm. When my kids are older, I'm gonna invite myself to a real sedar so I can experience it from a different perspective. |

thanks! And I'll take you up on it, one day. :) It's on my "life list" of things to do. Part of doing things slowly and not rushing my family. I just talked my dh into really doing shabbat when the kids are older (not just the beginning and end). He loves the idea of hanging out all day doing nothing but reading. :) But, not yet. At least the idea has been planted. |
