What do you use to cover you countertops for Pesach? Any tips or tricks to ensure successful application? I usually have trouble with the area around the sink, in particular, because our faucet is attached to the countertop instead of into holes in the sink deck. thanks! |

Any idea where I can buy that? I'm in the Toronto area, if anyone local has a source. Any idea what it costs? DH found something called "industrial strength plastic..." that he said comes on a roll and looks like it might be about as thick as contact paper (but of course not prone to getting wet and soggy). It was $10, so we'll try it. I intend to switch the kitchen early enough to deal with it not being suitable and having time to try something else. We don't put hot things directly on the counter all year round, so it's easy to remember not to on Pesach too. We live in hope that maybe by next Pesach we will have renovated the kitchen, so we don't want to invest a fortune. If the plastic he bought doesn't work out, we can always use it for something else, like for when we paint the living room (another wish-list home renovation project!) |

I don't know where you can get it in Toranto, here they have them in the grocery store. |

We are using linoleum, bought from home depot. This is my first Pesach that we're making, but I think it should work nicely. |

Zun - when you use the glass cutting boards, do you find that spills leak between the cracks? I'm such a messy cook, that I'm afraid I'd have to keep lifting them to wipe underneath. GayilC - The Home Depot Canada website doesn't list linoleum on a roll - is it just in the regular flooring department? And how do they pack it? Will I need my big, tall, strong dh to carry it for me? My parents used to buy something like linoleum, except it was washable wallpaper that looks like linoleum tile. The roll is narrow, like a roll of wallpaper, so it is easy to get home from the store and simple top put on the countertop. I haven't found it in the 10 years I've been living in N.America! |

yes and no. I don't put them right on each other and I use them like reg. cutting boards. So, yes, sometimes if I am cutting a tomato or something than it might get some juices on the foil and than I just wipe it right up. |

dh bought it. it didn't come on a roll. I think he said there are 2 different sizes that you can buy. 9 x 6 oro 6 x 12 (something like that). He plans on cutting it down to size and taping it down with duct tape. I didn't try to lift it, but it really didn't look that heavy, and it was folded up when he bought it inside. |

That's what I use for the backsplash. I have plywood Pesach counters which I put on the counters after they've been cleaned. |

As per Kmelion's instructions last year, I went out and bought a looooong length of heavy duty something or other, and cut it down to size. It's a bit wider & longer than my countertop, so I tend to just hold it down with heavy things at the ends! Stovetop & sinks are cut out. Yes, I find water gets under it and it has to be dried off before we can re-roll to put it away. |

thanks for all your replies! I did not get to Home Depot yesterday (ornery 3yo, exhausted mom, what can I say? I did do the supermarket twice though!) DH didn't buy what he saw, because he thought it was probably pretty thin. Will look into all my options at Home Depot, where I'm also on a quest for new drip pans and knobs for my stove. I saw replacement drip pans a couple of places, but my stove has a combination drip pan and ring (all enameled) so I guess I have to track down the genuine part (or just cover with HD foil, but I always have trouble getting it covered properly, without causing problems with the element). |
