I am so annoyed that we have garbage pickup once every 2 weeks. it always complicates things. there is a garbage dropoff before pesach on friday morning but i am going out of town thursday morning. i hate to ask someone to bring my garbage there for me and will try to limit it to 1 bag.

wow! that's a bit nuts! Some citys will arrange a special pick up on erev Pesach! BH< we have 2x a week here as well. (of course we are limited to one big bin, so if they didn't pick up that often we'd havea very smelly neighborhood.

Our last pickup is Tuesday and I am freaking just a little as I will not be done. I got behind because of Tev's surgery. I plan on sneaking in the middle of the night and putting some garbage in the restaurant's garbage behind my house. They are picked up every morning at 6 am and always have room.

We have garbage pickup 3x a week. And we have a special pickup erev Pesach. Even though we get regular pickup on Shabbos (which is very early AM), they make an extra trip in the early afternoon.

i don't think you have to worry about garbage once it's in the bin. and if you are, just pour bleach over the garbage. iirc, once you throw it in the bin it isn't yours.

We asked (and I urge others to as well and not rely on the answer I got AT ALL) and were told the garbage is ours until they pick it up and it goes off in the truck. Its still in our garbage cans (which we own) on our property. By putting it outside it doesn't make it any less ours.

busymommy, we are on the opposite schedule (had recycling this week) so you are welcome to bring any leftover garage here for next Thursday.

What about filling up the can, bring it next door to your neighbor, and sell it to them for $1? Would they mind putting it out for you?

Our area really made a smart move this year. Now that we are limited to 3 garbage bins/bags every other week, they have instituted "double up days" where you can put out 5 items. They do this a couple of times a year, including this year right before Pesach. And, Chasdei Hashem (mercies of G-d) our double-up day is Thursday morning right before Pesach! It has made so much difference to my stressing about the garbage!
Other years, there has been a dumpster arranged for the local community centre, for when garbage day hasn't co-incided with erev Pesach. But, I was always worried that we would have so much stuff that it would be too much to take.
In theory, any real chametz garbage actually goes in the composting bin, and anything else that is just plain garbage, instead of actual food waste, isn't a problem for Pesach (just that you need to dispose of it, especially with limits on how much the garbage men will take). In previous years we've had this problem, and were told to be careful to separate between chametz mamash (actual chametz) and plain garbage. I guess in theory it should be easier this year, because we are in the habit of separating the garbage out, but I must admit that in the heat of the pesach-cleaning moment, I am not always as careful as I should be!
