I know that some products are labelled Kosher l'Pesach even when that product technically doesn't need a label. I'm looking for a basic list of what does and doesn't need labels. I'm thinking about juices, milk, meat, canned fruits and veggies, frozen fruits and veggies, salt, basic staples. I'm also wondering about kitniot - we eat it, but North American hechshers won't certify anything with kitniot in them. So, can I get regular kosher hummus and rice and canned corn? Our level is basic kosher, following Iraqi minhag on the kitniot issue. We eat grebotks, chalav stam, etc. |

The OU website has a list of all the things they certify that do not need special Passover designation, etc. It's a downloadable file available as PDF, I think. It's got things like food products that are always Kosher lePesach, and don't get a P (like the Sea Merchants frozen fish in Sobeys that has a letter from the OU posted by it) and non-food items like foil, and cling film, and plastic baggies. It's pretty exhaustive, and useful even here, because so much of what we get is OU certified. Sorry, still haven't learned how to do the fancy links like Realeez has! |

Forgot to add about JSOR - it's the Sephardi kashrut organisation (I think in NY) that puts out the list of which brands of rice are free of chametz additives. I'm assuming the Sephardi Kehilla Centre at Bathurst and Steeles also has information although it might not be pertinent to Iraqi minhagim? www.kehillacentre.com |
