My mother just told me that there are signs alerting people that the Witssosky Iced Tea is NOT kosher for pesach - even though the label says it is. Oy, we already had half a bottle. Anyone know anything about this?

Doesn't effect us personally since we don't eat/drink processed foods.

If it is made in Israel it is not mehadrin at all. Are most Israeli brands imported or made their under license? I was surprised how trusting people are of foods because they come from Israel.

Kashrut.com has an alert from just before Pesach, informing that the iced tea is mislabeled but the tea bags that have the printed Pesach hashgacha is fine.
Sorry, not sure how to put this in as a link, so you'll have to cut and paste, but here's the link for the alert.

I got an email from our community mailing list telling us that it wasn't Kosher Le'Pesach.

thanks - this is the link you should have posted: http://www.kashrut.com/Passover/PAlerts/?alert=P0207 :)

On close inspection, I noticed that the P after the (O) was crossed off with permanent marker! But it still is mislabeled as "Kosher for Passover".

thanks! Didn't realise you could get a link for that alert alone, and not the whole page of alerts. FYI, we find this website to be a very useful resource. And we've found them very reliable for identifying mislabeled products more quickly than the other sources (ad in the cjn, etc).

My question is: Why didn't the COR send out alerts???

Not sure.
wrt the wissotsky issue, I'm guessing it's because it's an OU product, not COR, and therefore they aren't going to get involved.

But on the COR passover guide, they write about OU products...and I've seen COR send out warnings for MK products...probably OU too...can't remember. Kashrut is kashurt.

I agree, that with a system of one certifying organisation for the city, and with them approving the use of hashgachos from other places, it would be helpful to have received an email alert from them. When approached, they are helpful in answering questions about using products with other hashgachos.
For some reason, despite signing up, we don't receive the email alerts, but I do get the kashrut.com ones, so I see the cor alerts through that.

So then the next question is why the mashgiach at sobey's didn't put up a warning sign earlier than he did. He should be up-to-date on all these alerts.

That's the kind of valid, reasonable question/comment that I think it's OK to ask him about when you see him at the store.
I know I see him there regularly, and he's usually rushing around very busy, but I wouldn't feel bad about stopping him to ask him about it, and kindly request that it would be a big service to the community to be quicker about these things. There is probably a very good explanation, and you deserve to hear it, and does he need to know that people take the warning signs seriously and appreciate them.
I am actually surprised that it took so long, especially as they were pro-active about putting up signs by the frozen fish to inform that the OU fish was kosher for pesach without the P designation.
