To make it with a bracha it needs to be about 5 lbs (aprox. 14 cups) of flour.

14 cups is only about 2,5 lbs.

you would get a bit more than 20 cups from a 5lb bag. 14 cups may be closer to 3 lbs. Sorry I cannot edit my posts my quote and edit buttons seem to be broken---I think its my filter.

There are appx. 3 1/3 cups of flour per pound, thereby making 5 lbs of flour appx. 15-16 cups. Perhaps you meant 2 1/2 kilo?

after the rising when you take challah, make the bracha "Baruch ata hashem Eloikaynu melech haaolam asher kidishanu bimitzvotav itzivanu lehafrish challah min haeisa."

You take about a handful. Be careful (if you're burning the piece) not to burn it at the same time that you're baking. The piece is holy, and therefore should not be burned at the same time. Some people will wrap the piece up in two coverings and throw it away.

About the size of an egg I believe is the measurement.

One loaf, I made in the shape of a key. The other I baked the spare key to our front door right into the loaf.

BusyMommy - you don't need to take off more, because taking challah is not de-oraisa today (from the torah) because we don't have the Beis Hamikdash. Therefore kolshehu (meaning as long as you took something) is okay. It's just better to take more, so you'll know for next time.

My challahs came out yummy too! :D

Kmelion - that looks delish... I love the shape. I never manage to get my challos to keep any special shape. Like the ones I make for Yom Kippur in the shape of a ladder. After they're baked they resemble nothing close to a ladder...

So, mine looked perfect but were off somehow. Something was up with me cause everything I baked was slightly off I personally found. Nobody else tasted it though :) I also baked one like a key and one with the key.
