All year long everyone is running. On Pesach we eat real food. When I used to eat packaged foods I also thought they were trash. Last year dh sold Pesach cookies that were real atrocious. We fed them to the gc for months who learned to run when they saw them. Our problem was we did not get a full compliment of fruit and veg. That is a disaster. No squash, eggplant, few fruits. Also, when I sold my freezer I forgot that that meant no sorbet :ouch Try doing real meat, fruit, veg, etc. Then you have so many possibilities. For Shabbos I am making meatloaf and stir fry, latkes, sweet potato kugel, cucumber salad, and pickled beets. Egg salad, coconut balls, wine and matzah for Seudas mashiach. I know that only adults will eat the kugel and beets. And for motzsei Shabbos there is a whole wheat challah and butter in the freezer. :banana |

I know I'm whining - esp. since we eat kitniyot and grebrokts and packaged stuff - I'm just lazy with fussy kids, and I think I'm finding it hard to go off the easy convenient stuff cold turkey. I miss pasta, I miss pizza, I miss bagels, and I miss being able to grab stuff out of the house. I ended up sending the kids to programs for 2 days and working for 3 days, and that's when I was really feeling it. If my posts don't make much sense, it's because I'm hypoglycemic. |

Because we don't eat processed foods, I've learned to be creative. Although, during Chol Hamoed, I made grilled chicken breasts and hamburgers (beef, turkey, onion, salt and eggs) and the kids were happy. We don't eat gebrokts, so the kids commented on having to eat avocado without matzah or challah. But they didn't have any problem finishing the avocado. :ha I've turned my kids on to fruits when they were very young and they freely peel apples whenever they need a snack. We started Pesach with cases of oranges, grapefruits, etc., and we're down to the last few. Yes, I do miss my spices and soy sauce and pasta. But it's only a few more days. And a few more days of healthy food. It's not a bad thing. :) |

Yesterday we got together with a frummie and we bought lots of fruit for her. Also, packaged chocolate marshmallow things. She brought these tiny turkey hot dog type things and offered to share with us but the had MSG!!! Why, must foods have that ingredient? So, she couldn't eat anything we prepared, and we couldn't eat anything she brought. Thankfully, the fruit was there! We spend another day today at Maimonedais hospital where they (yay!!) changed the kitchen over so everything was kosher l'pesach. My brother is more observant than me, but we both keep for the holiday. It was wonderful. (ok.. not being in the hospital, but the availability to inexpensive good food that wasn't packaged with preservatives!!) |

Maimonides is great that way, isn't it? A hospital where you can actually eat in the cafeteria. Also where the chesed people come all kinds of stuff to eat all day long. (Maybe not on Pesach, though.) |
