Thank you to everyone who gave me ideas. Something we had been told before the meeting was they wanted to know what OUR expectations were, what we do at home, etc... Thanks to all of you, I had lots of ideas going in and was organized. The meeting was supposed to be half an hour but turned into 2 hours! So, the outcome- Zu is chopping letters but not in the way most kids do. He knows all their sounds and how they work but not how to ID them. Its usually the opposite. They have a few ideas and are thinking about introducing nukudos with him to see if he can put it all together. As well, we are going to bring someone in to ID things that might be a good focus and ideas on how to help him learn better. Not an eval (had those and they are pointless) but rather someone else to look in and come up with creative ideas to make things stick with him since we are not having luck. Someone whose job this is and really understands the different types of learning. As well, we talked a bit about the situation as a whole, including how to deal with Tev next year. Something his teacher was very very strong on (and like I said, I really respect and love her)was that with a lot of one on one he can focus. That all the kids doing it at the same time is distracting him. But when she works one on one he picks things up quick. They asked if we would be willing to consider bringing in a girl that would focus on our kids and our kids only. This is actually something we had already started considering on our own to be honest. So this is their idea and to be honest- I think it will work! In the mornings the girl will be with Zusil in cheder. She will focus on him only and work with him and getting him caught up and help him learn to focus and not be as distracted. He flies with one on one so this is good. Tev would be in cheder till snack time to start with and we will see. At this point cheder would JUST be for social interaction for him and no focus on the acedemics. In the afternoon the girl would be at the house and work with the boys on their level. She would do with Tev things like parsha, kriah, holidays, and other things his class is doing. As well she would work a bit more with Zu helping him get caught up. His morah says he has a good memory and remembers things the other kids don't but can't remember things that the other kids are easily learning. So, this would give her time to focus on their unique learning styles and give them that extra. They do feel G-d willing one year of the extra help could 100% get him on track as we have seen already huge growth with him maturity levels. After that we will reevaluate!! SO, if you know of Lub. girls looking to go on shluchus, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have them contact me. There are lots of other girls, we would arrange for her to live with them. Also, if she was from the tristate area we would very much consider fridays free for her to go home most weeks. Pay will be negotiable. |

I'm so glad that you had a productive meeting, focusing on what the boys need, rather than on the negatives of behaviour, etc. I think that once you get the learning style sorted out, and deal with the frustrations that the teachers and Zu are having, that everything will become easier. And I think it's very smart to start working with Tev pro-actively. |
