Hope so too! I was an EC graduate myself though as was dh! between the 2 of us, we covered all 3 branches (although I actually was in the P branch for SK!) |

I think it's good to start with the shorter day. DD1 doesn't nap, but I'm still having her only go the half-day for pre-K. Honestly, a big part of it is cost. After 1, they only do playing, and she can do that at home for free. ;-) I just also think it's better to start small and work up than start big and have to back off. |

You know your child best. My girls went to full-day JK, but Associated does have a nap/quiet time in the afternoon. I found that was really useful - the kids don't nap as well or consistently at home, and I would notice the difference on early closing Fridays when the nap time was skipped. I agree with not doing playdates or programming in the afternoons. If you ds needs the extra stimulation, he'd be better off simply staying in school until 3 p.m. If he's napping, it should be consistent, and nap/quiet play is the afternoon activity. I also found, btw, that kids in the full-day program at Associated had more time to cover the same material, so they tended to learn it better. I remember that I was thrilled with the full day for my dd when my best friend said that the half-day program wasn't really teaching her son anything - she mentioned that if there was a birthday, for example, that would take up a huge part of the morning, and since the day was just under 3 hours, it wouldn't leave much time for anything else. |

Oh I should mention my dd is entering nursery. This past year, I did send my son to JK until 3 pm since it made my life easier in terms of carpool since my other son in Pre1A finished at 3 as well. |

oh boy... things have gotten way more complicated. now I found out I will be teaching 3 afternoons rather than 2 + friday while dd is school so now I am not sure if I should keep her in the end... |

Heard back from the school - totally OK to change our mind part-way through the year, and they pro-rate the cost. Appreciate the advice about keeping the afternoon schedule consistent - that's the kind of advice I need. Wish there was a way to get him to play quietly if he doesn't nap. He hasn't been able to nap in bed for at least 18mos, and tends to fall asleep in front of the dvd or in the car (so we don't go out in the afternoon if he seems tired!). He'll be jumping around, then suddenly curl up on the sofa and fall asleep. Not ideal, but that's what works. As for doing a whole day. The morning and afternoon programmes are different, from what I can tell. The afternoon is 2 hours of English enrichment, and he's getting enough exposure to reading and phonemic awareness at home. Realeez - hope you can get your schedules sorted. |
