lately I've been having this craving for pizza with lots of melted cheese which I can't have due to milk allergies. Is there anyway to get the Tofutti cheese to melt? Is there any other Parve soy substitute out there that melts?

Toffuti does melt - kind of! I would cut it really small (too soft to shred/grate). I used to melt it into stovetop casseroles an d stirring helped. I never made pizza from scratch
They sell a prepared Toffuti Pizza in the frozen section of out supermarket.

Yes, I make pizza with it weekly. My kids LOVE it. Its actually good on pizza. I stack the slices up and than cut length, and cut width. Small squares. I than sprinkle them over and they melt perfect. Just try not to let it chunk anywhere. I also make pareve mac and cheese. In a couple of weeks chabad.org should be publishing more allergy friendly recipes from me for the 9 days.

toffuti pizza wasn't good when I tried it a couple of years ago and in those days the cheese didn't melt. I guess I'll try it again... which flavors are good?

we get it and my kids love it and actually i don't think its bad. I make homemade usually though and have fun with toppings and add toffuti chopped on top melted.

bnm- we also will sauté up some veggies and mix them with a bit of sauce (and sometimes add in some meat as well). We take a bit of toffuti slices and chop them up. Than put it all in puff pastry sheets like a deli roll and bake it. It can really hit the spot when we are wanting something like a calzone.

While we are on this topic, does anyone know of a non-dairy, non-soy "cheese" that we could use in recipes (melted, not in sandwiches)?

or make calazone dough (ie pizza dough) and fill it with what ever works for you.

thanks for the advice. I made myself a pizza today with tofuti American cheese, ketchup, and oregano on laffa. That certainly took care of my most major craving!
