eat tzitzis??? Mine have never. My boys have wool and Tev's are in excellent condition. He is very protective of his. His are actually Zu's old ones cause they were in such good condition and Zu outgrew them in a year and needed larget ones. The ones I got him last year are still in great condition even considering all the hard playing he did at cheder. I only need to replace one pair out of 5.

Sara, you are lucky. My boys' tzitzis strings rip or wear down in the wash before they outgrow them. Or they rip the tzitzis itself.

I replace tzitzit on a almost monthly basis... :doh!

Oh and one of my kids pulled out a tooth while using a tzitzit string as dental floss... :ha

Ok, so I'm not the only one to have to constantly remind her kid that they don't belong in his mouth.
Between that, and getting them caught on chairs, they unravel from the middle, or stretch out.
But, the best was when ds was riding his bike, and managed to get them so caught in the chain that it took dh quite a bit of maneuvering to free the kid, then free the tzitzis. Not to be outdone, some while later my dd decided to get a long skirt caught in the chair of her bike (which has a chain guard). She had to remove the skirt, and then later dh had to take the bike apart to free the skirt. She hasn't worn that skirt since!

guess I have gotten lucky!

we hand wash them so that might be why they don't breakdown fast.

I have the same problem as Scrappin Mom and some of ours are also wool. I also find that the strings get dirty and don't become clean. My son's tzitzis recently got caught in his bike chain. My non-frum neighbors rescued him and they were not impressed. It really can be dangerous. I keep reminding ds to tuck them in when he rides his bike. They were a brand new pair, too.
