I think the oldest has to be tough so that the other kids have it easy. I used to have to have temper tantrums and beg and scream to go out ever at 16, it was a three hour ordeal every time, but my younger sibs would say "mom dad were leaving..." And my parents are like, ok see you soon love ya.

So not fair...
I get constant complaints from my older ones on things the younger ones get away with that they didn't. New dh, older mom.

What happens if a "good" child marries a "difficult" one? Which way does it go? :D

I was a relatively easy kid (seriously - ask my parents) but my DH was a terror. So far, my ds has been a delight, and I hope it stays that way!

Anyone besides me think that birth order has a lot to do with it too?

Sent all the teens to camp for 8 weeks. Expensive, but keeps the peace...

Or you could do what my parents did - send them away for 4 years in high school and a year in Israel. I left home at 14, came back for good at almost 19. And the h.s. was WAYYY more strict than they ever were. So I had nothing to rebel about when I came home. :ha Though as I'm not an oldest child, maybe it wouldn't have been so bad anyway (okay, that really wasn't the reason, anyway, that I went away - but that's a different story ;) ).

You get a dysfunctional child. Just kidding. :ha

That's what we have. Dh was a good kid and I was..... ;)
We have both- good kids and terrors. One is a mix. He can't figure out what he is. lol
