Hi, I want to take my baby to get her first haircut. So I think I am going to take her to a specialized salon just for kids. It is more expensive but they are amazing with the kids. However, I also want to take my 3 year old who is hysterical about the idea. Do you have any ideas how I can make this experience less tramautic. BTW, she is just as bad when I cut her nails. She has never been hurt by the scissors but now she is in a panic. Help!

I had the same problem with DD - my solution was to cut it myself until she was ready (at about 4 1/2 yrs old). I never did a great job, but it was just straight across all around, and she keeps it in a pony tail most of the time anyway.

I say don't push too hard on the small fears, especially for something realtively minor like this. Save the battles for the important issues, like school etc.

But then, I am dealing with a dd who has many anxieties, so I really have to pick my battles.

Good luck.

I wouldn't take a little one for a first haircut at the same time as the older one with the anxieties. You wouldn't want to have the younger one pick-up on your older dd's fears. Is there any way you can take just one at time?
Also, I second the suggestion that you cut your older dd's hair yourself until she is more comfortable. We have to do the same thing with hairwashes - I have to wash their hair myself, instead of dh. Every time he does it, it sets us back a little while, as he is less skilled at keeping out of their eyes when they move.

my dd was great at melonhead as she was busy with the videos

If u go to the melonhead website u can print pics and color them and save ten percent

Of topic but I am waiting at the border to cross into Canada now and I hope they don't search our car like the us guys did

When Hallie was little I had someone come to my house so she felt comfortable. Also, it helps to see an older child get her hair cut first so she can see someone sitting still and quietly.

Talk to them. I never thought to talk about Tev's fears until Wed. i asked him why he was so scared and he told me cause he didn't want to sit on the floor cause it was scary to sit on the floor and see his hair all around him. (I do it at home) I asked him if he sat on a chair it would be less scary. He agreed to try. At first when it buzzed by his neck (clippers) he flinched so I asked him if the tickle scared him. He said yes. So, I told him to think how tickling when we tickle him isn't so scary and to focus on that. He giggled through the rest of his haircut!!

Not only that but cause Tev did so well, Zu saw and wasn't going to be one upped by Tev.

In the end I cut my dd#1's hair myself. I didn't realize how bad the scissors were until I was cutting. It is also a bit shorter than I would have liked but she was great! The baby went to Melon Heads because I wanted her bangs to be straight and I knew I would not be able to hold her head. BH they both look cute and are happy!

I took Ari yesterday. He wasn't happy. They gave him a lollipop and we had one happy, quiet, motionless kid! (and then after we threw it out so he wouldn't have a sugar high)
