Tevye is starting cheder and so far the school has been wonderful making plans, training everyone what to do, etc... his main teacher is a fellow parent of food allergic kids (plus and minuses!). The assistant I met today and she is wonderful. Totally understood how serious this was. Thing is, she is Israeli and speaks next to no english and can barely read english (head teacher is fluent with hebrew so no communications issue between them. I am psyched as she will speak to the kids in hebrew which I see as a huge plus.). We had a translator (another teacher) because I knew my hebrew would fail me and this was to important when we met today and she totally showed me she not only got it but took it seriously. She had a very good request- Any and all materials in HEBREW we can get her the best. I need help translating our action plan, allergen list (with directions on how to respond), and epi instructions in hebrew. Her concern is something will happen and because she is acting in an emergency her english might fail her. She will never be alone in the class with the kids when Tev is there but she doesn't want to take a risk here and next to the english signs that have all this info, she would like it in hebrew. If anyone can help me I would be SO appreciative. |

they don't. thanks though. All they have is what is there and when I went over the one that was useful its not as clear as the one I have in english so it makes it harder for the person who doesn't know what they are doing. keep on trucking I am sure we will find something and I feel okay sending him on monday! |

There is an allergy forum "over there" and an Israeli forum that is closed. I can contact the people who belong top both (Anglo Israeli sufferers) and hook you up by email. |

sara- is allergy information just not as generally available outside of the states? even in toronto we received alot of looks/questions when we told family or restuarants about sasha's peanut allergy. |

Interesting you say that since here in Toronto, there are 3 nut-free Kosher bakeries. I think one of them is sesame free. After speaking to friends in different US cities who had none, they could not believe it and told their kids TO would be a great vacation place for this alone! |

wonder if its cultural then- most of the Indians we were with had no idea- but once told went out of their way. it made it more difficult since we had no idea what the ingredients in most of the food typically were to question |

outside of north america it is not as easy though European labeling laws are WAY better in my opinion. Actually, the US is way behind in labeling laws but Canada is doing better. As for information for those in the allergy world- the US is at the top which is helped by the fact that we have the best allergists in the world. rikal- thank you!!!!!!! |
