Poor boy :( The dentist offered to freeze me too because I'm so nervous (after I declined, he offered laughing gas).

Ds#2 had 2 teeth pulled (a year apart) instead of getting a root canal. He had a major infection both times and the dentist said the root canal had a 50% chance of being effective. And he didn't want to take the chance of the infection coming back.

B"H really well. We put on for him a Curious George video and I think that worked better than the freezing! The dentist was able to complete it all in one shot. Now he's relaxing at Bubby's house while I went grocery shopping.

Good to hear that it went well.

DS has to undergo surgery for dental work. Unfortunately we have had to wait 3 months for an appointment. In the meantime he got an abcess, which we treated with an antibiotic (but they will have to pull the tooth.) And we're just hoping that it doesn't get infected again before his surgery which is at the end of october.

Good luck! My ds was on a 10-day course of antibiotics since he was infected too. He is such a good boy, B"H, that he barely complained even after (other than a comment after the freezing wore off that he thinks the dentist made his pain worse!)

It sounds like he had something similar to my son. His dentist told me that in infected teeth/gums, root canals have a 50% chance of not succeeding in preventing another infection. He was better off having the tooth pulled. He was also on antibiotics.

He did better than I would have done.

Apparently it was successful and he had it all done in one shot - sometimes if the bleeding doesn't stop in time, they have to continue another time. Today he complained about his lip - probably bruised - but I gave him chapstick which made him happy!
