Hmm, but the Canadian system is better than the US one? Last Wednesday my son showed me an abscess on his gum. Thursday night I called the dentist, went right over and had the tooth pulled. By shabbos the entire thing was gone. And no antibiotics. I also expect insurance to cover about 80 or 90% of the cost (I can't remember what our plan covers anymore) which I will be billed for when the dentist receives payment from the insurance company. Probably will owe on the order of $20.

I'm very confused - what does my son's root canal have to do with Canadian versus US?
FYI, Canadian dentists are not funded by the government. Either you pay or your insurance pays most of it (same as drugs, glasses, chiropractor....)

If you are talking about how he was on antibiotics for 10 days before his root canal, it has nothing to do with Canada. My little guy was complaining on the Sunday of a long weekend and went to the dentist's emergency services that night for an examination including x-ray and prescription for amoxicillan. His dentist reassessed him on that Thursday since there was no urgency and we booked the appointment for the next Thursday. If he would have felt it an emergency, he would have done it asap or even Monday but that didn't work for my schedule.

reelez, Estie was probably refering to my post, about waiting for 3 months for an appointment for surgery. The health system in this part of Canada is severely understaffed and the wait times are horrible. And we will be left with a large bill even after insurance covers most of it - as they only cover $1000 per person per year.

Btw, they did offer to pull the tooth under local for ds, 4, but they recommended against it as they said it would be very traumatic.

Oh ok... guess that's what happens when you don't pay as much in taxes as we do here ;)
What kind of surgery will he need?

ican - our dental insurance in the states is like that. $1000 / year. but bh the insurance is free from dh's company so if we were to go above that it would be okay since we're not paying anything for it anyway. dental hmos are so horrible.

I was referring to ICan's post where he has to wait 3 months for an appointment.

Our dental insurance pays either $1500 or $2000 per person per year, but I can't remember which (one of these days I will read the literature that comes during open enrollment)

Nothing to do with the taxes, remember dental care has to be PAID for. It just the shortage of workers here.

He needs to have cavities filled and now this tooth pulled. :( :(
