I am confused what the swirl is in the first place? Is that the middle where the hair meets up and goes different directions? If so, my boys have never not covered it. It sits there naturally! |

someone told me 2 swirls means that whoever has it was supposed to be twins or something but ended up being only one kid. (of course, this person told me that since her family member has 2 swirls naturally he was supposed to be twins since obviously there was a fertility issue since he was 2 before the next sibling was born ...) i think it's a bubba maysa. |

look at the back of one of the kids heads, in the center of the back is a swirl where the hair grows around in a circular pattern. "normal" people have one, my kids have 2, it looks like eyes in the back of the head, and causes endless bad hair days, especially in girls. but in boys whose hair is short it stands up on end, and as it grows causes the kippah to stand an inch off the head. |

That's why my boys keep their hair short - and why I was so glad to cover when I got married! |

Dina - I brought DH and Stirlings kippot online. I think this woman just had small medium, large and x-tra large?!! I went a little bigger for Stirling, I found that bigger is easier to keep on? The other thing you could do is cut out a circle, cut a line from one edge to the middle so you can get the slight cup shape and then pop it on Saul's head and see what it looks like etc, then email and ask for the radius or diameter measurement of the kippot you are thinking of and compare? Otherwise I know a lot of little boys in both the reform and orthodox shuls I've been to wear the Bugari (sp?) kippot as they stay on better. My boys dont seem bothered by material/cut/style, both daddy and Stirlo are more fussed about the picture/pattern. DH has one with kangaroos and southern cross patterns and Stirlo's has frogs on it (its actually a pesach style) and he LOVES his froggies...I had no idea about the different kippot having different politics etc attached to them! |

I tried to get a pic ofthe swirls inthe back of my baby's head but it was not working. Here is the nasty result of the double swirls though.... removed Edited by U Tarzan Me Jane, Oct 29 2008, 07:54 PM.

Okay, I've never thought of this this way, but this totally explains why the ds with two swirls wears his kippah more to the front, he probably found it was the only way it stayed on at length. |

Yup. My kids have them, too. I think it might be genetic b/c some of my brothers have them. Dd has her 2nd one in the front by the hairline and when her hair is short, it causes a cowlick. Tarzan, aww ! He's adorable, kay"h! Saulsmom, it depends on how big his head is. Ds#2 is 10 and wears a size 6, which is getting small on him. Ds#1 wears a size 4 b/c he has a smaller head. |

Sof sof, today I got him a "shluffel" kippah, black, on sale. I snipped off the pom pom. He LOVES this thing. And it covers almost his whole head, and stays on. We'll see how this goes. If it works, it might be a good solution for a while, if I can find more of them in black (no writing on it or anything). |

Which chassidic sect in Yerushalayim wear the white ones (and I think, knickers too?). I found some on ebay but they all have writing on them (Na Nachman, or Shema Yisroel, or some with Yerushalayim embroidered which isn't too bad). |
