This past chol hamoed we only had one day to take a whole family trip, and two older kids didn't want to come. Dh and I decided not to make a big deal about this. It's just that with dh's and the older kids schedules, there are very few opportunities to do anything with the whole family. I'm still not sure we made the right choice.
Any thoughts?

We had the same dilemma. Look what happened with our Sunday plans. We sorta made up for it on last Sunday (our last time we would be all together for another 2 months, including my fil).

Dh told the kids that we were going out as a family. The issue wasn't where we went but that we would go out together. So we discussed our itinerary with the kids and asked for their input. Then Sunday happened. What's the saying about "best laid plans"......

Mine are 16 and 17. I think the only thing they would've agreed to is one of the big amusement parks, but it's so much $$$, and i don't know how much the younger ones would've liked it.

My teens are 17 and 15. We went out with the kids on Thursday Chol Hamoed. Sunday was a mess. So we took the kids out last Sunday. We had a great time, b"h. Even the surly teens smiled.

As the kids get older, it's harder to find things to do with them. We did the amusement park (Six Flags) last Pesach but it has mostly roller coasters and the lines were forever. We wanted to go to Hershey Park, but they didn't do "Jew Day" this year.

when a jewish organization rents out the park, and it is closed to the public. lines tend to be shorter and prices somewhat cheaper.

Exactly. The park is usually rented out for the whole Chol Hamoed. They put up a few super-sized succahs and sell kosher food. So we don't have to shlep food with us like we usually do.
