Due to the Mumbai attacks, Aviva's preschool has security. We now have to have school "stickers" on our car and they changed the security code. (The old one was 613--pretty obvious huh? ) The also hired a "security" guard and the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol cruises by a couple times a day. But I am still nervous. It is a Chabad preschool and while there is a gate for the cars--it is not around the entire school. It is a huge piece or property situated on a hill. So anyone really could sneak their way in if they really wanted to. And it is obviously a Jewish school since you can the big Menorah they have on the property. :ha I know the likelihood of anything bad happening is super small--but I am sure that is what the Chabad house in Mumbai thought. :( Does anyone else get nervous or am I a freak that way? |

Actually no, they very much were concerned about being attacked. In fact by Rabbi Holtzberg's bed they found books on how to deal and protect from a terrorist attack. Many of their friends said they were very concerned and spoke honestly about their concerns with other shluchim. Am I worried? Yes. We live right behind the shul and to be honest, I can tell you the police presence is ten fold. Last Shabbos we looked outside the back window and there were 4 cop cars surrounding a car and a number of cops were searching the dumpsters right behind the chabad house. I still send Tev to school daily though. I taught at jewish preschools right after 9/11. The northbrook jcc which I taught at for a while had major major security cause we got so many threats. I can tell you, they are taking the threats seriously. Even more now whats going on in Israel. Some security you might be aware of, but other stuff you won't be cause its safer to keep some stuff hush. |

I'm concerned. There has been an increase in security recently - but we are close to people with backgrounds in this area who have told us that it is not enough. We live in an area which has always been very open. I think that many people can't or won't make a psychological adjustment to be more security-focused. |

In some ways, I know in Israel that someone has thought about all security scenarios and planned accordingly, so I don't always have to worry. Here, there is an element of hope for the best. When I hear Israeli critique it, I get nervous. |

Here schools including all girls schools, have at least 2 armed teachers with emergency training. They don't always tell parents that. It is an ed ministry rule. This is in addition to the guard at the gate. |

One thing because our school is SO small, it is not labeled. Most people in the community don't even realize its a shul or a jewish school. |

Yeah well we have a huge menorah that can be seen from the road, and there were articles in the paper about extending the day school to encompass HS and "adult learners." Everyone knows where we are. |
