Bottle, carton or bag? How big are the kids? How much detail do you want? (ie does it matter to you if it's realistic compared to the milk you buy in the store, or is it enough that it is obviously milk?) Looking forward to this challenge! |

not sure, My daughter is 7 and my son is 5, my theme is Milk and Honey, "Eretz Zavat Chalav U'Dvash" My little two are honey pots, So I figured the big ones can be milk, I just have to figure out how to go about it, milk carton or glass/cup of milk. I did not think of using a white garbage bag, writing milk on it, cutting a whole for head and arms, tying it at the bottom. What do you think? |

That could work, but I'm having trouble visualizing how you'd get the bag to keep it's shape. My experience with cardboard is that it get's torn or crushed, or else the kid gets too uncomfortable to want to wear it all day. But, that would be the best way to make a carton, or a glass, I think. I'll think it over. |

I am doing honey cakes and milk box drinks, I also would do cartons but got the no already from the kids. Let me think about it overnight. Unless I get felt and make it out of felt.... |

Kids don't want to be cows, And I have two honey pot costumes with bee's on the heads from years ago. I had bought them at Disney for my big one and nephew. |

I think felt or foam sheets. Both should be moldable and durable enough to last through Purim and for the school costume day (if they have). A glass of milk should be pretty easy to do - just make a flat-bottomed cone by cutting a trapezoid. Make a straw shape and tape it onto an elastic or hairband, and that's the straw coming out of the top of the glass. Cardboard would be cheaper, and easier to get in a large size, though. I'm not sure where you would find such a large piece of foam or felt, although you might be able to buy felt by the yard off the bolt at the fabric store. Another idea for really large pieces is to buy batting from the roll/bolt, although that isn't as durable but would be very soft! |

Deena, I found felt on the bolt at the fabric store today. Two weights - a regular, fairly thin one, and a double-thick, firm one. It was very wide, too (didn't check the exact width). It would be easy to draw on it with a sharpie. Edited by npl, Feb 26 2009, 02:16 PM.

I tried one Idea on making the costume with a hoola hoop and felt hanging down with baloons as bubbles and a straw, It flopped. Off to the drawing board again...... I will let you know how it comes out. |

It sounds like a cute concept! What do you mean by "it flopped"? I'm trying to visualise what you did. How did you hold the Hula Hoop up? I'm guessing something like suspenders - maybe ribbon? If the hula hoop was too heavy, how about using wire coat hangers to make the ring? Or, just make them more 2 dimensional, instead of trying for a perfect cylinder? I'm dedicating Sunday to creating a knight costume from silver lining fabric and silver vinyl. My brother the History major has been talking me through it. Now I just have to figure out how to make the helmet shape, which I think I found a template for, and the boot covers, because I don't think knights wore snowboots! |
