so I cleaned 3 bedrooms and the basement for pesach so far- but does anyone have a good list of what needs to be accomplished and what can be done ahead of time?

In short no. The very notion of pesach cleaning horrifies me, and given my kids often appear to be made of crumbs, I dont see me getting much done ahead of time that wont require a redo...

Good luck with it all!

i'm in my 8th month so i don't have a choice about cleaning now. my youngest is 5 and a half so he understands about making sure there is no chametz when he comes upstairs.
i am trying to plan ahead if i should do the kitchen cabinets that i never really use or what should come next

The purple book... spice and spirit has out a pesach organization book. It has GREAT stuff in there with checklists included.

Hint: dirt is not chametz! Pesach cleaning is not spring cleaning. If you've done upstairs, next is downstairs (on the assumption that your bedrooms are up and the rest is down). Living room. Vacuum between sofa cushions. Regular dusting around books. We don't bring books to the table because I told DH I was not prepared to open each and every one come Pesachtime. Our first year I did nothing...I cleaned up, and we sold everything and used disposable. While I generally don't believe in disposable, that was our best solution spacewise that year.

It's not so terrible to do a thorough cleaning and organization ahead of time, then just touch up later.

Ok.. so if my cleaning lady is coming 2 more times before Pesach.. and if before each time I give a good scrub, then she finishes.. can that count as Pesach clean? She is doing my fridge.. is that ok or must I toil to have it count?

Good question. I've often wondered this as one day when I am a rich tenured teacher (hahahaha) I would love to go to one of those hotels for the week of pesach. I remember even at ninety my bubby would clean along side the maid just to be sure she "did her work."

The fridge for me is calming. I know- I am weird. After having to do ALL the machon chana ones before I could leave for pesach it just became calming to me. For me its like, its really here, next step experimenting with my cooking!

Now, the rest of my house, I wish I could save that for a cleaning lady.

For the $10 I let her do it every other month. (she only comes 1x a month). I can't do it.. I have to wrestle with it in order to get the bottom shelf out bc my door doesn't open 100% of the way due to the proximity to the wall.... (have I mentioned that I can't wait to get a new kitchen?!! If you seem to recall me complaining about it at all, feel free to inform my husband of how utterly annoying I can be about it and how obvious it is that all I need to stop complaining is a new kitchen.....)

I was taught that it's fine for a cleaning lady to do the actual cleaning (ie the hard work!) as long as you take responsibility for checking that it's done properly, eg checking afterwards that the fridge is actually clean, looking in the cupboard to double-check for crumbs, etc.

I can do that. BTW.. it would be far easier to light a match to my den than check for crumbs. I do not look forward to cleaning that up.
