We couldn't go out to play today like we had planned (it is in the 60s) so I needed something on the fly. We started our pesach unit today and so with the extra time and the kids wanting a snack we made homemade matza. Totally not KFP but still a fun thing to do. The kids loved mixing the dough, rolling it out, and now they are happily sitting quietly with a video enjoying their snack. We talked about how the whole process should take 18 mins and timed ourselves (did not expect Frei or Tev to make it in that time but Zu did!!) and why we eat matza on pesach while we were making it. We used 2 cups of flour and 3/4 cup water (again, not really kosher for pesach!!!!). Zu can't wait now to go to the matza bakery with dh now in NY.

That's so cool! I went to the Chabad Matza Factory that they do with the kids, but I hadn't thought of doing it at home. If anyone is thinking of trying this, here's an idea they did at ds' preschool brachos fair:
Take soft-wheat kernels (the kind you eat as a grain) and whizz them in a little coffee mill to make flour, then make the dough, and proceed as with Zun's idea. The kids loved seeing how the grain became flour, and I think it helped them to make the connection between eating rice or barley, and eating baked goods.
