What do you do about the kids? How do you get it in their heads not to put things on their matzah? What age is it rational to expect them to get it?

we serve the meal separate from the matza. As in first we eat the matza in the ziploc baggie and then we clear the matza away and only then does the food come out.

ditto. plus in school they learn about not getting matzah wet...also, ask your LOR if there is anything that is allowed to be put on the matzah- i've heard of at least one thing that was told to s/o is ok to be put on.

serve the kids on plastic so in case they mess up its not that bad. also your kids are still young. we started being strict only at about age 7 or 8 with promises of treats on day 8. on chol hamoed we where all able to pick a nosh from the store to put away for Acrhon shel pesach to reward us.

Also, my father did allow us to spread home made mayo on our matza using a plastic spoon.

We use plastic everything including table cloths on top of my reg. one just to be safe. To much of a headache otherwise. Last year Zu got it in school and it did nothing... he was 4 though. We are talking about it a LOT now. Hopefully it will help. great ideas bnm... maybe I will let them pick out a toy or something for dh to get in NY to earn!

I know a lot of people put the matzah away but its hard. The shluchim I became frum with did not and kept it out during salads. Dh's as well... he would be annoyed. LOL Tev pretty much just lives on matzah pesach and is not my big worry. Last year I tried not to make a big deal out of it and gently remind them. Might just have to tell dh to suck it up. :(

Its pretty much standard in EY Lubavitch to put the matzah away before bringing anything out and changing the plastic if it is eaten on the table. We eat it in bags. My old boss (who used to be DL) jokingly called it his feedbag because he was an "old ferd". Oil has water in it by law, ditto wine, the problem with butter and hard cheese is condensation. The hassle of being sure is majorly not worth it.

I think it is not fair to say have it out but don't get it wet with such little kids. Putting it away saves the hassle and arguments. We had a guest once who we know this would freak him. We gave him disposable and his own plastic tableclothe and he put the matza in his soup. All of his leftovers we pitched.

BTW, most little kids take your word for it and are happy to comply if everyone else is doing it happily. Their emuna is less affected by outside considerations.

Ask the rov if the kids can have gebrokts, and until what age. He might allow you to serve them separately, with plastic plates and bowls.

We also keep everything separate, and change the tablecloth.

Allowing Matza to get wet - so no matza balls, baking with matza meal, cream cheese on matza or for some, letting the matza crumbs mix into any liquid.

How I was taught confused me honestly... how is it okay and not other things. Its one of those things I walked away from cause I never got a good answer. Some things are just not worth the frustration.

So, we make sure after washing the lettuce is REALLY dried off (something I prepare before YT). Horseradish goes in the lettuce and is dry not the wet stuff. (I grate it fresh in my food processor) We dip it in the harosset and shake off basically. Than put it between the matzah.

Now my kids, their thought on all this- load up the matzah with the harosset and have fun!
