SO, cause of the lack of meat available and the mounting prices due to the shortage (though thank G-d aarons is starting to get some back on the shelves) here, it was arranged for a bulk order for poultry and meat. The meat came from south america and I must say, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOo impressed!!! I just butchered up one of the roasts I got and cooked it in 4 different ways and have way way more than enough for Shabbos, but the quality is just SOOooooo good! I can't wait to try some of the other cuts I got. Why is it compared to the US meat we have gotten for years, is it just so much higher quality? (and not only is the quality so good, but dang the price was out of this world!) |

We get SA meat here, it is scrumptious. There is not really room for cattle in Israel but the one Israeli ranch shut down years ago because the meat was inferior and the cost was ridiculous. |

I think it's b/c the meat is grass fed and not lot fed (grain feed) like we do mostly here in the US. |

I found this:
It might also have to do with the breeds of cattle they are shechting. We had a local outfit that was shechting grass-fed, organic Angus beef. I'm not a big meat eater, but the taste was amazing. I don't know if it was the breed or the feed, but it sure was good. |

Argentinean beef is the best. But with meat/beef prices the way they are, it's forcing us to have more meatless/vegetarian meals and I'm enjoying it so much more. I way prefer a meal of pasta with broccoli and cauliflower than adding meat to it. Chicken I still enjoy, but that's it! |

I find a difference in the taste of chicken between the UK and N. America. And the colour is different, too - it's more yellow here, for some reason. My mom thinks it's because the N. American poultry is corn fed, rather whatever they feed it in the UK. Don't have any real evidence to back this up, though! |

barbie, we got such a deal it seriously was out of this world. I saved thousands on my order. I got brisket for YT at $5 a lb. The lamb was right around there too. Chicken and turkey was under $2 per lb. Pasta with veggies provides no protein. I have to eat a high protein diet and very very little carbs. Kids are allergic to most beans, lentils, and frei is ana to dairy. I do make us different meals heavy on the beans and lentils to cut costs but I also don't have time to make different meals for everyone every meal. There is only so much tofu thats good to eat. I agree. We used to get frozen Rubashkin cubed beef from SA and it was really delicious! |

Satan (say-tan) is pretty good too. It is true that pasta and veggies provides no protein, so I'm glad I don't need protein at every meal. I use a rice protein drink to make up for it if I missed protein for a few days. My mom has a fabulous menu for meals since she is 100% pareve and gets no dairy or meat protein in her diet. I just came from a BBQ where we were discussing how one of the girls is a vegetarian going vegan for tikon olam because you do so much for the world when you give up meat. Her kids aren't happy... but since her kids have no dietary restrictions and they simply "don't like" beans.. who cares!!! (I could never imagine not eating foods simply because they "don't taste good", and she pretty much feels the same way) |
