Putting this here, because I figure some of you crafty people might have your own website or web store. I'm at that stage in growing my business where I need a web presence (in a hurry - I'm returning to the craft show at a local shul for the second year, and I want to be able to point people to my online presence). Right now, I think it would be enough to be able to put up pages with a blurb about the business, photos and descriptions of stuff I've made, and a link to contact me. Eventually, I'd like to be able to use the site to list items for sale, with a shopping cart/payment system. I don't want to be part of a craft mall like HyenaCart or Etsy, because the volume of traffic is so great that your merchandise gets lost in the crowd. DH is techie enough that he could build something with simple software, and would enjoy the challenge of building and maintaining the site. So, here are my questions for those of you with websites: 1) Who hosts it? 2) What software do you use for building the site? 3) What do you use if for? (blog, store, other business, etc) 4) What do you like or dislike about the services you use? 5) Any hints or tips about starting up? Thanks! |
