Here we go again.

On Shavuot we put our best milkic foot forward.

Were there any major flops you made this time around? Good but didn't fly with the family? Mine was rice pudding that for some weird reason the rice got hard and sunk to the bottom and the egg/spice mixture that rose was disgusting. Cats loved it again.

The ravioli that I carefully cooked on Weds was totally stuck together when I tried to reheat it on Thursday, and the crockpot I wanted to keep it warm in (so I could turn it off right before yom tov and not have the appliance running) never warmed up enough, so the tomato sauce tasted "raw" and the food was barely lukewarm. Kids seemed to like the ravioli, though.
Also, Fri night I took the food out of the oven before I lit candles, but by the time dh got home from shul most of it was cold! I was counting on the heat from the oven keeping the blech warm, because the oven vents to the back burner and usually the blech gets really hot there. But, having turned the oven down to keep the kugel from burning before lunch, the blech cooled down really fast!
I made a new recipe for pareve cheesecake and it was really runny - I froze it and it's better, but waiting for the slice to soften enough to eat it is hard work!
There were some hits, though!

My whole entire thing! I made one meat filling for a bunch of things. I defrosted some ground lamb and turkey and realized it just wasn't enough. Dh told me, we have one more pack and took it out. I threw it all together and went on my way. I ALWAYS double check dh but got distracted and did not double check his label reading. The lamb was not lamb- it was beef. Frei spent YT having a reaction. Thank G-d not ana this time though she only had one bite and not a full serving. I couldn't serve anything but B"H we realized this right after licht (a whole different balagan but hashgacha protis. Her glass oil holder fell and while dh was cleaning it up she was sitting on my lap and I saw the hives). Thank G-d we have turkey in the freezer and threw some together very fast so we had something besides grilled veggies and a few other things. EVERYTHING but the veggies and the mac and "cheese" were cross contaminated.

I made a delicious cabbage salad in pretty flowery bowl for the milchig kiddush at my husband's grandmother. she refused to put it on the table saying 'her men don't eat salad, give it to your SIL X, she needs it (to lose weight)'

I hurt myself prior to YT, My MIL said she'd send food, but, when she said send, she meand Send DH 1.5 hour drive each way to get it.....DH told her he can't do that, as I was laid up (still am) and he was playing Mr. mom.

I ordered food from the grocery store, they sent all the wrong stuff, so I had to "make do"

macoroni instead of lasagna
puff pastry sheets instead of squares
garlic herb toufutti cream cheese instead of toufutti sour cream
nasty jump instead of something else
no pickles

Since I hurt myself I couldn't do what I was suppossed to do for my mom, or walk over for lunch on friday, so my mom ended up slightly overwhelmed too....
We ended up with a very low key YT, but it was nice anyway

UTMJ - refuah shleimah! That sounds so stressful.
Zun - what a nightmare. I went through a long time keeping each food item separate (ie meat separate from rice, etc) because if I bulk-cooked, someone tended to start reacting to something new between me cooking and serving. I understand how nerve-wracking that is! I'm glad Frei is OK now.
bnm - how frustrating. I definitely had to do a good talk-up on the new recipes I tried, to get certain people to even try them, but at least they're kids.

npl- I don't keep ground beef in my freezer EVER! If dh and I want something with it he buys it that day and I cook it that night when the kids are sleeping. I don't EVER risk having it lay around for this reason. I don't know how the heck this even happened that it was in my freezer. Its so insane. I can bulk cook cause nobody is allergic to lamb or turkey thank g-d. At this point we have a really stable hold on their allergies so thank G-d, I can cook like that again... as long as ridicules mistakes aren't repeated.

UTMJ- hugs!
