Made his day!

Today, we had the ducts cleaned in our house. The guys who came to do the work saw me showing the truck to my 4yo ds. They offered to let him turn on the machine. One guy sat him in the driver's seat, got him to turn the key in the ignition, and press the switches to turn the machinery on. DS kept looking at me with this "is this really allowed?" expression that was just priceless. It made his day (especially with the added excitement of all the huge vacuum hoses running through the house!).
After that, watching his brother's music recital and visiting his classroom must have seemed tame - but I'm not complaining, because he sat beautifully, though my 7yo ds said he looked very serious throughout the performance (I think that must have been his "I must behave nicely" face!). He got rewarded for the good behaviour by getting to use the "big boys" washroom with his brother and then by himself - for some reason, that was exciting!

Yeah, it was nice to share the afternoon doing fun things with him, especially as we usually have too many boring errands to run or he's stuck at home in the afternoon while I do chores. And, he only fell asleep in the car twice this afternoon - so I may get him to sleep before 10pm (here's hoping!)

That is cute!

I remember when we first moved to Toronto, one night we lit (well, actually DH did it) a fire in our new fireplace, and forgot to open the flue (sp?). Well the smoke detector went off and was directly connected to the alarm system, and they sent a firetruck to our house without us realizing it. We woke up ds (who was only about 2 1/2 at the time) and took him outside to see the truck, and the firemen were so nice and let him check it and sit in the truck, all out while he was still in his pyjamas. These are great experiences for little kids!

npl, that is so cool of them to let your son get in the driver's seat like that! My boy is also 4 and he loves anything with wheels. I think about the only thing that could top what your son experienced in his book of happy days would be if a steam engine train showed up in our front yard ;)

Steam Engine would be very cool, especially as Grandpa is a train lover, and has supplied the kids with a huge bucket of wooden trainset to play with!
