Zun, great news about baby being stable so far. I had very clear signs with ds2 right from the start, and probably after the first week with ds1, although I didn't know what I was looking for. I understand about not wanting to rock the boat with a food trial right now. I have trouble fasting (not terrible, but I have to be really careful to get through a 25hr fast) so I try to everything I can to minimize the work I have to do. Between that, and avoiding situations where someone could get hurt or sick during the 9 days, I always avoided food trials then (me nursing, and kids eating directly). The last thing I need with fasting is to have a sick baby who needs to be held and nursed all the time (especially if the nursing is contributing to the problem!). It's a tough call to make, though. |

yep!! Thats why I WILL do fish but not rock the boat with dairy. For me dairy makes my fast harder cause I feel so hungry soon after a dairy meal. I end up spending the fast starving. |

Glad you figured out what is a good pre-fast meal for you. I need to really think it through. Probably whole-grain and lentils. I can't do melon this time, because I had a suspected reaction to watermelon when I ate it last week (felt really nasty, on the verge of taking benadryl on top of the antihistamines I'd already taken). Might have been just that the watermelon had been cut for a while, but not something I'm going to risk at the start of a 25hr fast when dh will be at shul for hours that night. |

Might be ragweed- OAS to the watermelon. Its one of those with a higher rating for a chance for such a reaction. I would MUCH rather something like lentils. I might do it for dh and myself with noodles or lentil soup. yummy. Thats a good idea actually. Either that or risotto (which everyone can have) and than cook fish the night before when they are sleeping and we eat it cold while they have tofu nuggets which they love. Maybe tuna steak for us which I rarely splurge on but it will fill us both up and dh loves lentils with tuna steak. Hrm... you are giving me lots of ideas. My other thought was a hearty vegetarian chili over noodles with fried onions (dh will only eat chili with fried onions on top) and toffuti sour cream. A very filling meal and very nut. balanced. |

I like the veggie chilli idea - might try that. There's a good recipe in the Moosewood cookbook. As far as the allergy - yes, it's probably OAS. I have airborne reactions to canteloupe that have become pretty scary (wheezing, itchy face, etc) and this reaction also caused stomach cramps, sinus headache, etc, that were all pretty shortlived and stopped around the same time. Just scary to me because I could always eat watermelon, although I'd had issues with honeydew a couple of times (and eaten it without problems so many others). I had hoped the antihistamine would do enough to stave off these attacks, but I must admit to being a bit scared to go to shul kiddush, just in case. At least my mouth isn't stinging/tingling every time I step outside now, so there is some improvement with the antihistamine. But, in the 9 days I play it extra careful, and especially because I won't be able to do much on Tisha B'Av itself (and dh will be out for so much of it, but at least he can have his cell phone on, which I will insist on, after getting so sick on Shiva Assar beTammuz, though at least he'll have a number of docs and probably at least one hatzolah guy there with him!) Sorry everyone, for the black humour. I'm trying to keep from getting too depressed by all this! |

I hadn't even considered what the kids will eat (when they're not home, that is). I imagine the daycare will feed them whatever they feed them; I have not asked whether they'll change the menu at all during the 9 days; I don't really expect them to. So if they get meat at daycare so be it. They're 3 & 1...I'm not too worried. |

ambrosia and parve onion soup this year my challenge will be what I can cook up using only a stove top or grill. if i'm in dire need i can borrow a neighbor's oven or microwave but don't want to depend on them. |

I'm not allergic to any nuts. I had tried to avoid peanuts during pregnancy but it didn't work out. |

nice. If I had PB and nuts I honestly would be fine. PN and all nuts are banned banned banned. With half of us ana its not allowed. Even more so cause I am ana and can't control the situation if it needs cleaning up. |
