My husband for the first time is going to go on a business trip in Januray. All the food that week for them is supposed to be catered (but it is obviously not kosher). He asked them about kosher food and the caterer told the office person that he could make kosher food but it would not be in a kosher kitchen! OK so not acceptable. I know there are websites that have meals to be heated up for situations like this. Can someone help with any information that you might have? Anyone who has been there/done this? And survived? I think he is worried about starving! :) Thanks for your help and websites.

My husband has done this twice. I have sent him with a large cooler with milk cheese bread and frozen meals. If he has access o a microwave, he can nuke them in the box once the outer plastic wrap is removed, that is completely halachicly acceptable.

Also there is a company called La Briute, they have shelf stable self heating meals, these were great, (they are pretty tasty too) My husband was able to have a hot meal when everyone else was eating a catered lunch. They had dairy and meat versions.

If you do not keep CY or pas Yisroel, you can pick up bread and milk anywhere, so there is no need to schlep. It's totally do able, but expensive.

As well Osem makes these meal on the go cups that my husband says are really good. He uses them for lunch at work and all it needs is hot water.

it might be worth checking if there are any kosher catering facilities in the city where he is going.

There's a company out of NY (a few of them, actually, I think) that will prepare meals and flash freeze them, and ship them out anywhere in the country. I don't remember how much they are; I looked into it a few years ago when my boss was going to Oakland. In the end she was able to stay in an apartment with disposable dishes so they just made an order for her on Kosher.com. I'll try to see if I still have the info somewhere.

Here's what my dh has done:
If he's in a hotel where he can get a fridge, and has access to shopping, then he buys bread/bagels, yogurts, cereal, tuna, etc. He takes can opener, etc with him, and eats in his hotel room. Sometimes he's somewhere close to a kosher restaurant, too!
When the conference is all self-contained and catered, and he has to eat in the dining room, with no option of going to buy his own, then he gets airline-style meals. They come with instructions for heating, so that the kitchen knows how to prepare them without treifing them.
If he's going somewhere that has kosher caterers or restuarants, and he just needs one or two main meals, he will ask the organizer to get food sent from one of those places (he specifies which caterer/restaurant) and they deliver a sealed plate for him to eat cold.
