Found one package of mozzarella Daiya, so I'm good. Think I saw it at local health food stores, too. I'm eating a lot of beans and bean dips! B"H soy oil is ok for us! But, I'm cutting back on the fish because I'm suspicious about some symptoms that may be unrelated, but the less there is in my body, the quicker they will clear up if they are a fish reaction, and I don't need a miserable baby on 9 Av who needs to nurse all day! |

Well I unexpectedly got invited to a siyum so we had BBQ! Hot dogs and hamburgers etc. Felt really weird, I haven't eaten meat during the 9 days in years. |

Estie - wow! DH keeps pondering whether he could learn enough to make a siyum, but I don't see it happening! On the other hand, I've had medical reasons to eat at least poultry during the 9 days so many years since I got married, that it's a bit weird not to. I figure I have one more day of no meat until shabbos, and then two days of meat (I'll be eating red meat rather than chicken the iron!) and then it's only another 2 days of no meat. I should make it through, even if I don't eat any more fish. |

Something like that. 15 years ago my grandfather was niftar on that 1st Monday in August. My father got called to Montreal before Shabbat and said "I'll be back Sunday, we'll have the barbeque". Sunday afternoon he called to tell us he was staying but we should have the barbeque anyway. Early Monday morning my grandfather was niftar, but the funeral wasn't until Tuesday so, as per my father's instructions, we had the barbeque anyway. There were 3 guests; 2 were cousins. Since then we've had the Manny Miller Memorial barbeque (MMMBBQ for short) every year. Identical guest list, except for the addition of a spouse. The Israel edition of the MMMBBQ was born my 2nd year here, when now-DH and I tried to book our wedding for that night. Hall was booked (Tu B'Av!), so we had to do it Tuesday. But the night before the wedding we attempted a MMMBBQ at Ramat Rachel, with some of the same guests...couldn't get the thing to light so we had to order in, still had burgers! And every year since then DH and I have made a MMMBBQ. (This year my parents don't have a working BBQ, so they made brunch. We Skyped our dinner with their brunch...it was cool.) |

Last night I made breaded fish, cottage cheese pancakes and spinach. Tonight we'll probably have leftovers - I just have to make veges. Then it's shabbos so we can have chicken and cholent as per our usual menu. Sunday and Monday...not sure what I'll make. Probably macaroni, maybe pizza, but that's hard to do because I have to remind DH that he's allergic to tomato and really, really shouldn't be eating the slices with tomato sauce on it... I could make only white sauce, but that's no fun for me or DS. With DH, his allergies aren't life threatening, so it's his choice whether to eat the food or not - he's an adult. We are sesame-free and if baby's 1-year allergy test still shows that he's allergic to peanuts and treenuts then I want to eliminate those foods from our house as well. But we aren't going to go milk and egg-free. I'm still davening that those two in particular go away...those are such important foods in my kitchen! bnm, if daiya isn't working for you, is there a different brand that you can use? |
