The new house we just bought needs major TLC. But that's not interesting. The fun part is making that house into a home. And part of doing that is interior design. What are your colour choices for the following spaces: living/dining room, kitchen, office, master bedroom, 2 kid bedrooms, washrooms and playroom.

Any tips/tricks on decorating? I want the kids' rooms to be happy, fun places, but within a limited budget...

we just got a new place that needed quite a bit of work- it takes time, so patience- and $$$$$. I painted kids rooms fun, but gender neutral colors, so i could switch around rooms if i want and got cute bedding with matching curtains...the living/dining rooms are still a work in progress as is most of the first floor, but we're working at it bit by bit.

Is your new house quite light or dark (I mean natural light) ? That makes a big difference for the colours you should choose. If the rooms are naturally dark you don't want dark colours on the walls too.

Our main living area....halls, staircases etc are a very very pale taupe, it took us a few tries to get one that was not too pink in the undertones.

Living room, Dining room, kitchen are a cream/off white colour (needed a very light colour to keep them bright...still neutral). Family room is a darker taupe than the halls, but I wish I had made it cream too. I like the colour but it is a bit dark, especially in the evening.

My theory is that the walls are the canvas so should be neutral, then your art, furniture, photos etc are what brings colour and personality to the house. The special items you want to stand out should not be lost in a wild array of coloured walls.

Our kids rooms are the only ones with colour...very pale yellow for dd, and blue with undertones of turquoise (he picked the colour) for ds.

Have fun! And buy small cans to test colours in your house before you commit and buy the full quantity, the colours look so different in the store than in your environment. We had 3 or 4 swatches painted on some of our walls for days till we settled on the right tones.

There are a lot of windows! But only on 3 sides of the house. Even the "basement" is above ground.

My husband is also a fan of neturals. He wants a 'peachy' toned house.

If you are moving again in a few months (I believe that's what I read on the other thread), don't go overboard with decorating. Neutrals are good if you need to resell, and then use color in things like curtains, comforters, etc. I personally love color on a wall. October Mist (sagey green) walls, an antique gold room (from the Colonial colors of Benjamin Moore, I believe), dd has a pink room with a mural, ds has a blue room with soccer balls.. I'm not one for beige neutral, but I would be if I were going to essentially flip a house.

I LOVE color but my DH only likes white, beige and a verrrrrrrrrrry light yellow. He doesn´t like any type of decoration and he doesn´t like pictures hanging on the wall bc he doesn´t like to put holes in the wall. Boooooring!!!!!!
But I hope you find lots of good stuff!!!!
