I really need to get started - I am working a lot and am not getting much time off around the chagim this year. Anyone have any terrific recipes to share? Menu ideas? |

Sorry - I'm keeping it simple this year. I'll do some variation of apple-honey chicken, and I do at least one roast with root veggies. Still figuring out Shabbos with the 3-day chag. I'll probably make double portions and we'll eat the same food twice, with cold food for shabbos lunch. I'll make Realeez's chocolate fudge cake, and a regular honey cake, but would love to find an egg-free honey cake, too. My easy favourite right now is roasted vegetables with Trader Joes 21 Seasoning Salute - hoping dh will be able to bring some back when he's in the US next week! |

My YT plans have been totally thrown out of wack due to Mo and possibly Tev. I decided NOT to plan until after Tev's scope next week cause he might have a more limited diet after than. I did make my meat order though and not so happy that less meat came than what I ordered. |

I haven't started planning, but I have started getting nervous. Is that good enough? Usually at this point, when the kids are back in school, I already have my challos, honey cake and kreplach safely in the freezer. This year, none of the above and I don't even have space in the freezer to put them if I'd have them made. My project this week is to make some space. Next week I hope to bake. Luckily, our minhag is to serve plain, unexciting food from RH till Sukkos, so not much headache for me menu-wise. |

I've been too busy packing, moving and unpacking! Far cry from last year when I was in my 9th month and had my freezer so fully stocked since i was due day after YK (and after all my nice planning, dd was born Isru Chag!) |

I found kosher salted herring fillets and I'm planning a "herring under a coat" and pirojki's filled with meat, cabbage etc. We also may get a tongue if the order comes through |

So the plan is to finalize my Rosh Hashana menu this week so I can shop and cook (and freeze) next week. The only thing I would like to have to do just before the holiday is baking cakes and Challot and making salads. My plan is to go heavy on the salads. I have no idea what I'm making for Wednesday or Friday nights. Shabbat lunch I intend to have leftovers. Thursday lunch we'll be having J and her family, M and her family and a couple. So that's... 8 adults and 8 kids. Lunch will be deli roll, felafel chicken, carrot kugel, spinach noodle kugel, kasha varnishkes (yes, I know, 2 pasta sides!!!). Apple strudel muffins for dessert. Thursday night we'll be having the Ls, 4 or so of their friends and C. I'll be making a turkey. AFAIK, L and Co. will bring everything else. Friday lunch we'll be having the Ns, a new family from NJ. They have 3 girls. I plan on doing dairy for this meal. Apple-potato latkes, broccoli quiche, breaded cauliflower, monkey bread pizza. I think that's it. Dessert will be tie-dyed cheesecake. The salads I'll be making will be potato salad, cole slaw, tomato salad and cucumber salad. Maybe also corn salad. Hubby mentioned a beef dish so maybe for Wednesday night I'll make a beef with crisps dish I did last year. If I can find decent celery, I may also make the cooked lettuce and celery dish.... |

Aak - just remembered about simanim - but at least that means that second night I have side dishes (I make the simanim as side dishes - tzimmes, braised leeks, etc). Really must get organized enough to look at my lists from last year, that I saved on the computer. It will make my life easier to have something to go on. |

LOL Once I get my presentations for the teachers written I think I will start. If I have to take something out for Tev I will work with it and remind myself to be flexible. |

Half the groceries (all the meat) is already in my freezer. We're going "away" for Shabbat Shuva (walking around the wadi late Friday afternoon...Shabbat necessities will be dropped off before chag). Haven't finalized the guest list but my menu is fairly planned. |

Monkey bread is balls of dough put into a pan then baked so when you serve it, it's a pull apart loaf. Monkey Bread pizza is balls of dough rolled in sauce, add cheese and bake. Then you pull apart to eat. |
