I'm taking the 3 kids (5, 3, 1) on a company sponsored Fun Day tomorrow. There will be breakfast/brunch provided on arrival (between 10:30-11:00) and a BBQ lunch around 2:30 (I think). It's a 3 to 3:30 hour drive, which means we're leaving here at 7:30. Baby is used to eating at 8:30 in maon, and "big" kids are used to having some sort of snack (sandwich, fruit/veggie) around 9:45/10:00.

I have a preference for healthy, not sticky, and not crumbly, as generally they're not even allowed to eat in the car. Healthy, even though it's a fun day, because from experience they'll probably get more than enough treats during the day and I'd like to start them out on the right foot.

Our program for the day includes a 2 hour water "hike" (the one we're doing is geared to pre-schoolers, so I doubt "hike" is really the right word!) at 11:00, then we drive down to the spot where lunch will be and there will also be berry picking, pony rides, and things like bouncy castles...you get the idea. Breakfast here will probably be smoothies (fruit, milk, ice) and/or cereal. Need I mention that with a 3.5 hour drive we will not be back much before 7:30? So they'll need a snack on the way back too (unless they conk out in the car...).

Ideas????

Consisting of...what? I have raisins, dried cranberries, and dried apricots in the house...I'm thinking too much dried fruit might not be too good a thing...

If you have time to bake - how about muffins? with whole grains and dried fruit, and yogurt, they should be filling and healthy. If you want a less-crumbly alternative, how about whole-grain pancakes? You can add yogurt to them, too.
For snacky stuff - in the morning I'd do non-chocking veg sticks like cucumber and celery, and something with a grain.
For the way home, I'd stick to the easily-digested non-perishable finger food like cereal (cheerios-style, or chex, or oatmeal squares). Probably better than sweet stuff for after a day full of excitement.
Also good to have on hand - rice cakes, especially for the baby, but my big kids like them, too.
If you'll have a cooler that will keep things cold in the car all day, and you want something to feed them at the end of the day, before you hit the road to come home, how about crackers and cheese (if you can get whole-grain crackers)?
Have fun!

I usually give my toddler cut-up fruit/veges to eat or cereal. He would LOVE that trail mix Zun :) .

If you can get Enjoy Life products C, they make a trail mix similar.

In the end I did just cut up fruit (whole grapes for the big ones, cut for the baby) and veggies (red pepper & cucumber). Dried cranberries (for the big kids) and rice cakes for everyone. They shouldn't need to eat before we leave to come home because they'll have just had BBQ (from experience they always have hot dogs and shnitzelonim for the kids).
