My son eats a lot of fruits in his snack box. I sometimes throw in a vege or two as well. Sometimes he'll eat a sandwich or some sort of protein when he comes home, but usually he's so tired that he goes straight to bed.

This was just asked on a listserve....

whole wheat pancakes, egg salad in a container with crackers or pita and a spoon to shmear it. i take a wrap and put ketchup and cheese and cover it with another wrap and bake it and then cut it into triangles with a pizza cutter. yogurt with bagel, roll , or pita., string cheese with some sort of bread ...

I would say go for what your children like...
I have 1 kid that eats only grill chesse, and thats his lunch every day..
Another son likes tuna fish, cream cheese and peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I like to send them with a drink, snack(pretzels, chips,cookies..) and a healthy one like a fruit, or veg.

Tuna, cream cheese, tofu deli slices or real deli, grilled cheese, chummus on bread, "pizza sandwich" (bread or bun with tomato sauce and cheese and toppings), soy hot dog in a bun, noodles or make a tradition soup at home and send it in a tight container or thermos, avocado sandwiches, I have one very picky daughter that if she eats protein for breakfast I let her have bread and butter sandwich. I sometimes by the frozen individual round pizzas for when I'm stuck its davids brand sobeys or kosher city has them. They thaw by lunch. Sometimes ill buy a crust and actually make up a pizza and give everyone slices for lunch.

mac and cheese in a thermos
yogurt with granola in a separate container
rice cake and cheese
slice of pizza
pita with spread

Melted parve chocolate chips spread on whole wheat bread
Pizza muffins – find recipe on-line

Found sandwich cutters at caynes.
Fake peanut butter.
Yogurt drink with multigrain / raisin pita
Pizza (kids don't mind it cold)
Cheese - if you freeze it, doesn't need ice pack
Edamame
I find anything in very small works best.
Here are some things I have packed with success.

- vegis cut up small with a small container of salad dressing to dip them in
- container of corn
-raisins
-yogurt in a small container
-small cookies
-fruit cut up small
-pasta with melted cheese
-cottage cheese with grapes in it.
-a couple slices of cheese
-rice cakes

so i do left overs
such as chicken fingers
beans and rice
tuna, although it does not go well most times.
pizza
sushi, and some kind of protien like egg or cheese slice
wraps work for lots of kids, with cream cheese or hummus

We do bagels and cream cheese a lot. Mac n cheese too. Hallie likes salami sandwiches too. Ari is more difficult. he doesn't like cold cuts and usually ends up having Pediasure shake.

I'm trying to brainstorm more ideas with the kids. Kosher, meatless, healthy, garbage-free, peanut-free lunches for 3 picky eaters are always a challenge.

So far:

Grilled cheese works for the girls
Freenut butter sandwiches work for the boy
All of them will sometimes have pasta, but with different sauces
1 will eat hard-boiled eggs
All will eat Wacky Mac in a thermos
We're about to experiment with miso soup, as a veggie alternative to chicken noodle
Chocolate-chip peanut-free granola bars are hit and miss
some will have small yogurt drinks
fruit in snack-sized containers work for all

So, I brainstormed with my kids as well. The only difference is our lunches are pareve or fleish. We don't do dairy in the house cause Frei is to sensitive.

salami sticks and mustard to dip into
chicken wings
chicken poppers (mini schnitzels)
beef stew
chili
pareve mac and cheese
veg muffins
pareve pizza and calzones
pasta with different dipping sauce
polenta fries
quasadillas
chummos with stuff to dip into it
pareve grilled cheese
edemmame (sp?)
tofu cubes with soy sauce
For Frei and Zu fish sticks
sushi- homemade veg and schnitzel for all and Zu asked for fish ones as well (Frei can only have fish at home)
homemade salsa and chips
homemade granola bars
crackers and deli meat
deli meat on pita or tapioca bread
