Purple book is probably "The Spice and Spirit of Kosher Cooking" (or some similar title - generally referred to as Spice and Spirit). It's the Lubavitch cookbook.
Sorry that I don't know what recipe she is referring too, but wondering if it's chremslach? (Never eaten them, but have heard them described).

As for me - we've just confirmed that we are out for 1st day lunch, which means I won't be using my crockpot at all over yom tov. Now I have to rethink my menus for all cooking ahead and using the plata to reheat. It's going to be too hot to leave the oven on, I think, and not warranted if it's only 1 meal I'd want to be able to cook on the day. In the meantime, I've suddenly had a couple of appts come up, so I don't know when I'm cooking and shopping!

I spent $300 this morning and I still forgot stuff. Insane... It doesn't help that we eat chalav yisrael for the 10 days, and a carton of ice cream that costs between $2.99 and $3.99 in regular I had to spend $8.49 in CY and it tastes worse.
Oh well....

Dh and I came down with strep... I'm doing better, but got behind on my cooking. Made 3 apple kugels to put into the freezer, sweet pot pie hopefully will be done today as well as 2 sponge cakes for future trifles... Maybe challas too.
