It's not the eating, it's the cooking that I'm having trouble with! |

I didn't overeat on yom tov, just the general heaviness of the meals is something I wasn't looking forward to repeating. Apparently neither was anyone else, because we started with a whole chicken and after two meals are left with over half of it. Guess what we're eating for our seudat mafseket? |

I was just trying to figure out how to make two meals with chicken for erev yom kippur, and what to make for motzei yom kippur that will be easy for us to break our fast on. Considering that I have only Monday morning available to shop and cook (and will probably still have leftovers in the fridge taking up space) I really need to figure this out. Then shabbos, then yom tov again, and chol hamoed meals, and yom tov again! I'm not having much inspiration in the easy-cook, please all the kids menu planning. One kid looked at the choices at lunch (no fish course, just salad, cholent and kugel) and probably left the table fairly hungry. I feel bad, but it was the best I could do with a fussy baby and a preschooler who needs a lot of attention right now. |

we had a minimalistic shabbos - challah fresh baked (froze some for yom tov), gefilte, lox, chicken soup from freezer, parve cholent, shnitzel, quinoa, potato kugel and choc marshmallows for desert. i was not in the mood for cooking at all... now on to plan seudas hamafsekes, what my kids are going to eat on yom kippur etc... |

For erev yk I don't have much to do. Kreplach need to be made. Those are on my list for tomorrow. Need to bake fresh challah. I have leftover chicken from Shabbos plus a tray of turkey from RH. I have 3/4 of a pot of turkey soup from RH. Sauteing up zucchinis cause I know Mimi will love that cold the next day. Mashed potatoes take almost no work and the big kids like it cold. My big kids love having kreplach the day of and dip in honey (I fry mine) with cold noodles. Not much to do though erev. Monday night I am going to try and put up cinn. rolls. I used to always do this but the past 2 years I have been to tired and burnt out. |

I need some inspiration. I have frozen chicken soup in the freezer and some kreplach I can also defrost. Since I'm working that day I won't have time to make a meal, and since we have to be at shul by 6:30, that leaves maybe 15 minutes to eat food anyway. (provided DH gets an early train, otherwise, we are just scarfing down dinner fast so as to not eat in the car) Thoughts on fast foods? |

I haven't figured out what the kids are eating, but it's either going to be leftovers from the seudah or it's going to be deli if fleishig. I have one who won't eat that, so it's more likely going to be cheese and yogurt and falafel and bourekas...NOTHING that has to be cooked because the kids are off after tomorrow through the end of Succot and I can't cook when they're underfoot. And yes, DH is working erev YK. |

I think the kids who are eating are getting cookies, fruit, yogurts, etc for snacks, and Deli sandwiches with veggie sticks for lunch. I'll pack lunch boxes for the boys, in case they go to shul with dh. Not sure what to do for 2yo dd, as she would eat some of each item in a lunch box in the first few hours, but I need to plan on staying lying down as much as possible. I'll probably pack a few different boxes/bags - morning snacks, lunch and afternoon snacks (which someone can give her when they get home after musaf). For after the fast, I'll probably make a parev root-veg and lentil soup and have some challah or rolls to go with it. Before the fast - still deliberating, but hoping to make chicken soup, two kinds of chicken (one for lunch, one for seudas hamafsekes) potatoes and pasta, and salad for lunch and some other veg for later. |

Barbie, its very important to eat a proper meal before the fast. Its actually a mitzvah. What about a crockpot meal? |

That's a good idea. I"ll throw something in the crockpot tomorrow morning. hopefully we won't have another blackout like we did this morning! I have chicken, onions, potatoes... I'll whip something up. That and soup and we should be set, or at least 3/4 of us. I can't know when dh leaves work until the last minute. He may have to eat in the car. The kreplach I bought by mistake and I'm so happy I have them! |
