I'm trying to figure out the chords for Nothing On Me...which I like a lot. But can't get very far. All I have is Capo 2 (maybe) and the melodic riff goes 2 4 6 2 and then you could play F#m often, but I can't find any other chords... You guys have any luck? |

Wow I can't believe that someone actually came here. How did you find this place? After Myspace and Facebook kind of took over the internet this place fell apart...then Jill took the link off her site and people stopped coming here. I recently redid the design of the whole place here to only have it ruined by the change from Invsionfree boards to zeta boards...after that I gave up. I just now came in here to delete this place altogether and find a couple of new posts. Maybe that's a sign...I should try to redesign this new zeta board junk into something nice. Now as for your question....I have no idea what you're saying. I play guitar but I have no knowledge of any technical stuff. As far as I can tell (I do everything by ear) I have it figured out. I have been playing this song on the geeeeetar since I heard it back in the day. So let me figure out a way to write it on here because it's kinda weird...can just write g, d, a or anything like that. My guitar may not be tuned in the standard key right now but I have it capo'd on the 4th fret for this song. I'll get back to you soon...tonight hopefully. edit: So I redid the design for the zetaboard tonight. I think it worked out good after all...and to think I was gonna delete it. What a shame. Ok I'm back. Like I said I have it capo'd on the 4th fret but that doesn't really matter because you might want to sing it in a different key than Jill so you can capo it anywhere you want. I am gonna call the chords and talk about finger placement as if there was no capo and I was playing the guitar normally but when you do it...do it in relation to the 4th capo'd. So... The main chord is an E minor (E-) with variations on it. So you'd play your E- and keep it going as you slam a finger (I use my ring finger) down on the high E string (bottom string) in the 2nd fret then slam it down on the 3rd fret to get that high variation...then right after that while still playing this E- slam a finger down (I use my ring finger for the 3rd then thumb for the 2nd) on the low E (top string) on the 3rd fret and then the 2nd fret to get that low variation. It's sort of a repeat reversed pattern like you did on the high E string...ha-ha if that makes sense. I suggest you listen to the song as you do this so you can hear the variations I am talking about. So anyway this is the main riff...then the chorus or break or whatever you call it goes to a funky chord (one of my all time fav chords that can be played anywhere on the neck) . No idea what it's called so I'll type it out... ![]() Anyway that's the gist of it. Not sure if it helps. It's just the way I do it and I think it works..and actually I think I checked last time I saw Jill if she played it that way. I think she did...unless I just dreamt that...lol...I don't know, I saw her a lot so I prob did check to be sure and that's prob why I still play it that way. You may do it another way better than me. Whatever works. Edited by Ryan, Jan 15 2009, 06:50 AM.

Cool Ryan! I'll try it out. Haha...I saw this site was not huge or anything, but I thought I'd post up something anyways. I heard a few of Jill's songs and like them. I wanted to be able to play guitar with them, but I could find no chords anywhere online. As I was searching, I came across your forum. Kinda funny! ![]() Yeah. It takes me a long time to figure out how to play songs by ear. So I thought it neat to find this forum. I checked out some videos on her site, to try and see how she plays them, but most of them don't know her playing the guitar, so that was pointless. Anyways, take care!

Hey, that's a sweet chord! I like it, I have no clue what it is, but it works. For the first part of the riff, where you said to do high E 2nd fret and then 3rd...it works, but it seems to actually be a kind of harmony of the melody I hear when I listen to the song. Instead, I'm trying this and it sounds okay: Em, then 2nd and 4th on the Gstring (3rd string from bottom). I use pinkie for this. Then the rest same as your riff... awesome, i can kinda play along now.. ![]() |
