I'm here, but sometimes I'm not. I can be everywhere without being nowhere. If you see me, it's an illusion as I can't be in two places at once.

That's it..I've lost it now Laughing man

Laughing man Now you see me, now you don't, eh Charla! Are we all an illusion of our own making? I quite often feel like I'm not all here. No comments, please#

Okay I won't comment Sherry..I'll just Laughing man

One of my absolute favourite quotes comes from one of my absolute favourite films, 'The Fog'. It's a real quote, well actually it's the last two lines from a poem by Edgar Allan Poe:

Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

It gives you food for thought :D

Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish, I wish he’d go away...

When I came home last night at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall
I couldn’t see him there at all!
Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door... (slam!)

Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
By William Hughes Mearns.
Sort of fits the thread :)

There's one wonderful and comforting type poem that has brought comfort to people who've lost loved ones but I can't find it on the internet. It's really nice to read it :)

Was it this one?

I Did Not Die

Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

or this one?

Death Is Nothing At All

Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way that you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.

All is well.

That one does it for me every time. That's my beloved papa, gone but not gone, not a spectre that appears at night, but in my every being and passed on to my children and their children. He will not die because he's always remembered and loved. I still mourn my father and will do so until the day I die but he's not gone as long as I, and my decendants remember him and they will.

Yes Lynne, it is a beautiful poem and I know what you mean. We might miss our loved ones but we can still think of them and talk to them, and I like to believe we will be with them again one day. :)

I think you've got it Sand Dancer, thank you 4d544553 I even tried to type in relevant words/statements and couldn't find it. Like the others, it can be such a comfort for someone who's lost a loved one. Thanks again my dear B-lowKiss

Reading all these poems reminded me of one of my favourites:
When I am dead
a poem by Christina Rossetti

When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me:
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me&
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain;
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.

Christina Rossetti
