The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

This is the story of a young man of low caste from Northern India. His world is the world of deprivation and poverty in his local area which is controlled by Landlords all of whom take their tolls from the villages in spite of their own vast personal wealth. Munna aka Balram becomes the second driver for one the landlords, The Stork. The story is of his journey from gratitude at his employment to his disillusionment with his masters, finally understanding the contempt with which he is treated and his gradual realisation that if he is ever to escape the ‘Rooster Coop’ he has to do something radical. Which he does. He kills his master and steals hundreds of thousands of rupees designated as bribes for politicians. He flees South and, undiscovered, he puts his knowledge to good use, bribes where necessary and become a wealthy entrepreneur himself. No moral story here!

Along with the story, it’s a fascinating insight into modern India and all its problems, the bribery, corruption and vicious retribution that runs rife, the disenfranchisement of the poor and the corrosive power of the rich.

Hmm. Lets see. In the Beginning there was the Darkness. That sounds like an interesting beginning for a Hindu Indian boy. Quite the opposite to the beginnings in the Bible where Let there be light and there was Light. I wonder if it mentions anything about the Beginnings in the Bhagvad Gita.

You wanted a sensible debate? Then you’d better start one!

When I first started reading what you wrote I thought you were pissed. Laughing man But reading on that soon turned to sarcasm..... and you know what they say about sarcasm? But then again you wouldn't be you without that little touch of witticism. Oh, we laughed..... but then they woke up from their dead status and had seen the world in the same position of flux.

Now I've started I turn my hand over to you. w-ink B-lowKiss

As we are both masterdebaters a debate should be forthcoming, if not forth then maybe we can go as high as 5th or even sixth. What about that?
